I'm presently listening to Rush Limbaugh. He has been reporting on the situation in Ferguson, Missouri. He was quoting a reporter then started mocking her vocal style. In case you heard it, the vocal style is known as Vocal Fry
I talked to a person at AT&T on the telephone the other day and she started doing this 'vocaln fry' with me...I just started laughing. She was taken aback when I told her what she was doing and how silly she sounded.
BTW, I read somewhere that it has it's original roots with the migrants from Oklahoma that went to California during the 'Dust Bowl' days.
Hay! He was mockin that New York Slimes editor!! I heard it too!!! She really talks that way and it wasn’t a put-on...
You're absolutely right!!!
Gag!!! SierraWasp, yer always late to the party and never read the threads before posting!!! Knock it OFF!!! (snort!)
And how cool that a deaf radio host can now hear well enough to parody such.
Yep that’s who it was and she did sound like a ditz.
I agree, they don't sound alike at all to me. Vocal fry has this gravely thing in the throat going on. Chelsea Clinton talks with vocal fry in her voice.
Hilary has been using that clickity low bass tone — makes her sound like a very, very important person.
William F. Buckley used a variant of this, lest we forget.
Oh is it a Canadian female thing?? I have a Canadian friend that does that, it’s SO irritating!
There is an audio here that demonstrates “vocal fry.” http://news.sciencemag.org/social-sciences/2011/12/vocal-fry-creeping-u.s.-speech?ref=hp
FWIW here’s a couple of examples of Jill A. fryyyyyyying her vocal cords:
“the front runnerrrrrrrr...”
3:47, 3:50
“the story behind the storyyyyyyy...”
5:53
“the city operaaaaaaa...”
6:17
“why it had to go bankruuuuupt...”
6:21
“a terror threaaaaaat...”
11:20

I know this is an older thread but I emphatically answer YES.
I have brought this up before on other threads and got shot down with extreme prejudice.
His voice has degenerated greatly over the last 3-4 years. He has an annoying growl or gargling sound at the end of his sentences and has a long, drawn out and exaggerated whiny pronunciation of words like "line", "dine" and "fine" He just used it now, pronouncing Mark Steyn's name.
Often he sounds like he's shouting at the upper edge of his voice to the point that it's shredding.
I was accused of having a crappy radio or some other such reason why I am "wrongly" perceiving a change in his voice.
I am not listening via radio, but rather to podcasts downloaded from his own site and comparing them to older podcasts from 4-5 years ago.
I'm a musician and pick up on even the slightest nuances in sounds.
