At about 1 a.m., a St. Louis County Police officer shot and critically wounded a man who police said pointed a handgun at the officer near the intersection of West Florissant and Chambers Road.
The shooting happened near Chambers and Sheffingdell Court close to the site of protests against police for the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.
Police said they received a call about four to five men in the area armed with shotguns and wearing ski masks and they got reports of shots fired in the area. Police officers arrived and saw "multiple subjects running," said police spokesman Officer Brian Schellman.
An officer approached one of the men and he pulled a handgun on the officer who then fired, Schellman said.
Police said they recovered the handgun at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital.

No one is debating New America is the Liberal’s wet dream. I am saying that to take the pacifier out of their mouths will result in their violence being MET with greater violence.
War is as Limbaugh says “to kill people and break things.”
Libs have been fighting war on us all since time began. They created their monster, but who will cure it is the million dollar question.
They’re Americans and our brothers and sisters. You’re right that the root cause is liberalism. Therefore the root solution is conservatism. It’s a war, but we can win.
They will tell you they are AFRICAN-Americans.
Respectfully disagree and here’s why...
The officer has every right to fear not only for his life, but his family’s as well if his identity is revealed just yet. At some point, it will be, but right now, it serves no useful purpose other than to place him and his in jeopardy.
A show of force towards barbaric behavior is what is called for here...if left unchecked, it only devolves into chaos and can get out of control...see Rodney King riots if you want an example of the police lying low, “de-escalating”, letting the vermin “burn off steam”.
Preventing the vermin from running amok and destroying more private and public property and possibly escalating towards violence is within their mission statement.
I’m amazed at the amount of restraint they have shown so far...I think they’ve done a pretty good job under the circumstances.
There’s a cure for ignorance. They can call themselves whatever they want as long as they vote right.
Problem with that is who they think is right to vote for and who buys their vote with the free stuff!
A little like an alcoholic and twelve steps. First step is the addict admitting he and his addiction (whatever it is-drugs, sex, entitlements, gambling, etc.) are the problem and giving it up. Not enough ink (money) or voting ballots to cure that.
agree.
Really good point. The key is to bring good jobs back to the inner cities. Light industry, heavy industry. When folks have good jobs, they gain a sense of pride in themselves and their community. They begin to self-regulate their behavior.
It amazes me that no one in power talks about this, or cares about this.
LOL!
Bears repeating!!!!!
I emailed my friend in St. Louis (who is black) to see if she was OK.
She told me that Ferguson is about ten minutes from where she lives, that it is really a very nice area, and that the rioters are all from elsewhere, and are ORGANIZED.
I wish more people knew this, as the media won’t tell us!
Nonsense: though it was utterly predictable.
The problem is those who deny the prediction are too egotistical to admit they're wrong.
Suddenly, the yute physically assaulted the officer...
Minorities of minorities vote. For blacks large numbers are bused in and large numbers work for government. You’ll have a hard time capturing them, but there are wedge issues that will work. If you suppress the black vote or get enough of them to switch, perhaps raising your totals by 10-15%, you put a lot of statewide races into play. It’s urban v. suburban/exurban/rural in many allegedly Democrat states. Reduce the urban Dem vote and you’ve got a lot of winners. Look at Wisconsin.
Plus, I’m not one to sit on my hands watching the mayhem unfold.
Both McCain and Romney missed a grand opportunity to hammer Obama on urban issues. It would have been an easy photo op to go to the parents of kids who lost their vouchers in DC and then had to watch as Obama and Michelle sent their two precious daughters to Sidley Friends.
Cook County is ready made as an example of Obamanomics. Romney could have shot hundreds of three minute shorts about what’s wrong in Chicago or Cook County per the Dems. He didn’t do that.
So far I know that in 2016 I only want a Gov/Gov ticket and right now I like a Perry/Walker ticket, but Nikki Haley has done some smart things, too.
Great post! I guess the cops don’t like it when it comes back at them.
I don’t understand what the city is doing. I’d bet everything is on video. Chicago ADMITS they have 16,000 cameras. How many does the St. Louis area have?
Urban poverty exists by design is not nonsense, unless you’re unfamiliar with the system. I do agree that those who are the intellectual powers behind socialism/Marxism/progressivism or whatever it’s called today are egotistical, but they designed the system and enforce it as well.
Just to set the record straight:
Michael Brown had no criminal background
ST. LOUIS COUNTY An 18-year-old shot and killed near a Ferguson apartment complex Saturday afternoon had no criminal record, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office....
St. Louis County Prosecutor’s office confirmed that Brown had no prior misdemeanors or felonies against him.
Didn’t know that the St. Louis area Amish used shotguns? Thought they used “Thee” and “Thou” to disarm their opponents.
But was he the right “one-armed” man? Dr. Kimble wants to know.
