Ebola and Climate Change: Are Humans Responsible for the Severity of the Current Outbreak?
Newsweek ^ | August 12, 2014 | By Elijah Wolfson

Posted on 08/12/2014 3:35:16 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

... In a study published in 2012, researchers asked national infectious disease experts in 30 different countries whether or not they thought climate change would affect infectious disease patterns in their countries. The majority agreed.

Nevertheless, it’s unclear whether these beliefs are driven by good science, or, as Malcolm Gladwank argued way back in 1995, a guilt-driven “idea of disease as a punishment for wickedness.”

It’s true that West Africa, where the latest and most catastrophic Ebola outbreak is currently raging, has faced unequivocal environmental changes in recent years. The International Food Policy Research Institute published a report in 2013, finding that in Sierra Leone (the epicenter of the outbreak), climate change has resulted in “seasonal droughts, strong winds, thunderstorms, landslides, heat waves, floods, and changed rainfall patterns.”

And there is, according to the World Health Organization, a recent global increase in infectious diseases that seems to correspond with rising global temperatures.

Because though modern society’s impact on the Earth’s environment may not result in an explosion in Ebola, it seems that it will almost certainly drive up rates of these other, far more dread diseases.

“a recent global increase in infectious diseases “ just might have something to do with rapidly increasing populations and far less population isolation.

Earlier this year, as part of my annual physical, I gave a urine sample.

That sample is far more valuable than any Newsweek article.

It USED to be that the "latest" wrinkle in research always started out with "British science says....."

Glad that's gone. MOST research is done to prove a researcher's point and is RARELY set up to get ANYTHING but the predicted outcomes. I know the drill: pick the correct subjects and put them through a regimen that will give the researchers the results THEY predicted.
Being as such, they are mostly a CROCK.

It's also due to media attention.
People aren't any more or less stupid that ever and spread/don't spread diseases the same way that's been done for eons.

The poor and uneducated bear the brunt, as they've ALWAYS done throughout time. Nothing has changed no matter how hard the do-gooders try.

Drunks and drug addicts will do what they darn well want to. Punks, jerks, aholes and fools will continue to blunder their way through life, even with all the "help" of education.

SIN.

Yes, but not because of “climate change.” Because of filthy hygiene.

Junk science and political propaganda take precedence over reality and the lack of real proof of any GCC.

It’s time to take back the Constitution and the Republic and outlaw once and for all the democrat party.

It must be vacation time at snoozeweak. I am disappointed that it took them several weeks to propose a link between ‘climate change’ and Ebola. Their leftist bona fides are slipping because it took them so long! They may lose 10% of their readership for that faux pas, leaving them with 9 readers.

Not sure who called it, but someone on FR said several weeks ago that Ebola was going to be blamed on global warming.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
