I have to respond to one my more point which is your comment that if someone posts a link to an article - then they don't necessarily agree with the contents of the article. In Blackirish's case, he says that Brownback mishandled the economy and then links to an article to support his comment - so of course he believes the article supports his position, otherwise why post the link?

In conclusion, I find your comment to be emblematic of a lot of the problems we are experiencing which boils down to people who aren't able to think coherently. It is apparently too much for you to accept that a statement of opinion (i.e. Brownback mishandling the economy) which is then supported by a link to an article is a clear indication that the article supports the author's statement of opinion.

“Tax collections inched upward last month, beating estimates by $1.6 million, according to a July 31 press release from the Kansas Department of Revenue.”

It isn’t enough that Brownback cuts taxes and then has tax collections actually increase as a result.

Before calling someone ignorant you might want to know what you,re talking about.......

For the first 11 months of its fiscal year, tax collections were down $685 million, or 12%, from a year earlier, at a time when U.S. states, according to the nonpartisan Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government, are expected on average to see annual revenue growth. Moody’s Investors Service cut Kansas’ debt rating in April as the state draws down its reserves to make up for lost revenue

The article made no mention of the economy being hurt and did note that tax collections had actually increased as a result of the tax cuts.

State tax revenues for the past fiscal year were way below predictions and were, in face, $726 million lower than the year before: Link

State revenues have been falling for a couple of years. State expenditures have been falling as a result, but since 63% of the budget goes to schools they have taken the bulk of the cuts. That's not popular. And as the next round of income tax cuts take effect it's only expected to get worse. So Brownback has got some 'splaining to do.

Do you understand what supply-side economics is? If you do, and you think that Brownback’s tax cuts are hurting the Kansas economy, then you are in the wrong party. The party that believes tax cuts are bad is the Democrat Party, not the Republican Party.

You equate the health of an economy with how much money the gov’t takes in?

Real (inflation-adjusted) GDP data just published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis shows the Kansas private sector did much better in 2013 than in 2012.

Kansas’ rate of Private Sector GDP growth increased in 2013 while most states saw declining growth. Granted, 2012 was a pretty rough year for Kansas, but it’s noteworthy that Kansas bucked the national trend in 2013. One year does not a trend make, but this is still encouraging.

Kansas grew faster than the fifty-state average in 2013 and also grew faster than the states that tax income and the states with the highest state-and-local tax burden (as ranked by the Tax Foundation).

This is also a good reminder that states with lower tax burdens have superior economic growth, which was the primary reason driving tax reform in Kansas. Like most high-burden states, Kansas suffered economic stagnation over the last fifteen years with slower job growth and wage and salary disbursements. The trends won’t change overnight, but these new GDP numbers are certainly good indicators that Kansas is going in the right direction.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, in May Kansas touted an unemployment rate of just 4.8 percent, compared to 5.1 percent in Texas, 5.8 percent in Colorado, and 6.8 percent in Arizona. It’s also way below the national unemployment rate of 6.1 percent.

Of special interest, however, is the unemployment rate of next-door-neighbor Missouri which shares not only a border with Kansas but also more than half of Kansas City. Missouri, which didn’t cut income taxes (they remain at six percent on taxable incomes above $9,000) suffers from an unemployment rate of 6.6 percent, and climbing.

...the idiot Sebelius was elected twice.

I've always heard that was due to a spoiler 3rd party interloper.

Yup. GDP is up. Unemployment is down. Tax revenues are down. Budget deficit is up. So where did Brownback go wrong?

No. She took 53% of the vote in 2002 and 58% in 2006

I equate the budget deficit from the amount of money the gov't takes with the greater amount of money the gov't spends. The Kansas deficit if growing. And in trying to balance it Brownback is cutting funding to education, which he has to do because education accounts for almost 2/3rd of the budget. People aren't crazy about that and don't have a lot of faith in his plan to do away with income taxes altogether. Apparently neither do the credit rating agencies since they've cut the state's credit rating twice I think. Thus his problem with the polls.

We’ll elect a Dem to statewide office once in a while, so long as that office is in Topeka. Sending Dems to Washington is another matter. We have cast our Electoral votes for the Republican since 1968. We haven’t elected a Dem Senator since 1932.

Would all of you in this useless argument stop using left wing talking points? It’s not TAX CUTS, it’s lowering TAX RATES!

Geez.

I must be on the wrong site because I think the gov’t getting less money can only be a good thing. Less money to the gov’t equates to less gov’t mischief. And with regard to public schools, they have become indoctrination centers, not to mention being profligate with the money they get, so it should be viewed as a good thing that the education budget is getting cut.

Well, that's shocking!

I'm losing faith in "conservative" Kansans.

But we Texans shouldn't talk. We managed to elect the moonbat Ann Richards as governor back in the 90's.

Nothing changes till the money runs out. Many so called conservatives see the govt as the solution to problems.

Yeah well apparently a lot of the people in Kansas think that schools are a good thing and disagree with you.

A week or so ago, a freeper on another thread mentioned Tokyo Rove is associated with this new Rasmussen group.

If so, take the results with a truckload of salt as it’s Rove undermining a Conservative. AGAIN.
