Just such a sad loss. People just don’t understand depression. I’ve heard more people say, he was so rich, why was he depressed... Having suffered from it some, it’s amazing how the mind can work on you and until you get it straight, it’s a struggle. On top of that, every move he makes is splashed on the front pages of the rags!!! Just such a loss. I hope he has found peace and I hope his family gets some grief counseling.
That's only been known for about 50 years, now.
Robin Williams died????? Who knew?
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarters Expenses?
He was also a big lib so maybe when he found out the guy he helped elect, B. Hussein was a radical Islamo who is responsible for helping to bring forth the Holocaust 2, he couldn’t deal with it so he checked out. Mork returned to Ork.
This seems to be generally true, something in the way comedians balance internal vs. external perception seems to be different. This may have especially been true for Robin Williams, who it is said was “always on”. His act wasn’t so much an act but an amplified version of who he really was.
I remember a segment on an old 60 Minutes improvising with Jonathan Winters, who was his mentor, and friend. Of course it’s on Youtube and is still worth a look:

Bob Hope lived to 100, Milton Berle was 94, Jack Benny was 80 and George Burns lived to 100. The older comedians didn’t seem to have the issues of the comedians of today.
One way to cope with depression is making other people happy. That probably is way many people suffering from depression do become comics.
I was watching the Watchmen over the weekend. Which of course meant hearing this one:
Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says “But Doctor... I am Pagliacci.” Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.
Yes comedians are more prone to depression, there’s a reason they need to hear people laugh.
FYI..this week airs the finale of the “Last Comic Standing”
Moving right along...
Yes.
I have a couple of his routines saved on my computer. He could be funny but he was too manic for me. The movies I had seen of his tend to blame capitalism and conservatism while he himself enjoyed the millions he made from those movies. He bashed Reagan thru Bush but went light with democrats. I remember his comment about Bob Hope doing the same routine for decades and that he did not want to end up like that. Bob Hope was a big radio, tv star and had many successful movies.
Robin Williams comedy was the same from his Mork days.

Being divorced twice, an adulterer, a sufferer of herpes simplex, and tens of millions of dollars in debt tends to do that to a person.
From Wikipedia:

Actresses who committed suicide (140 P)
Some were elderly who were despondent over the passing of their spouse. Others were in pain from advanced illness. Some had financial problems or were depressed.

It is sad that Williams never knew the global affection for him that has come forth after his death. He was a brilliant man who made us both laugh and in his dramatic roles touched us.
When a person is smart enough and old enough to see the heart of man and his fate - but is unwilling to accept Christ’s Grace, suicide will be the likely outcome.
I think this happens with a lot of “above average intelligence” people as they age. Look at Ecclesiastes. It’s Solomon as an old man, full of wisdom. After getting the chicks, the cars, the private jets, the villa in the Alps, he realizes it is ALL a chasing after the wind. But then the zinger is in the last paragraph:
Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
If one is at the same level Solomon was at and refuses to accept that last paragraph, suicide is the logical next step. It would be for me, and I’m only 60.
As Paul said in 1 Corinthians,
“For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
And...
“What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’”
I bet cocaine users are.
