U.S. spy agencies have begun to see groups of fighters abandoning al-Qaeda affiliates in Yemen and Africa to join the rival Islamist organization that has seized territory in Iraq and Syria and been targeted in American airstrikes, U.S. officials said.
The movements are seen by U.S. counterterrorism analysts as a worrisome indication of the expanding appeal of a group known as the Islamic State that has overwhelmed military forces in the region and may now see itself in direct conflict with the United States.
Small groups from a number of al-Qaeda affiliates have defected to ISIS, as the group is also known, said a U.S. official with access to classified intelligence assessments. And this problem will probably become more acute as ISIS continues to rack up victories.

Fair game? If AQ or ISIS can get a hold of nukes, they wouldn’t hesitate to use them on us.
Yeah, but that doesn’t matter. We shouldn’t really be worrying what’s happening over there. It’s outside our borders. No worries...
Doesn’t seem they have jobs. Most jobs sort of makes it difficult to bounce from one terror group to another. Who feeds these animals?
Still need a target. ISIS isn't standing in formation with air panels over their heads.
ISIS with the BOMB. Are you serious or sarcastic???
Not exactly. One known isis member was caught at JFK flying in within the last day or so. Extradition expected of this one back to North Carolina to face charges but I do agree nukes should be a last resort. Not time yet for nukes. Maybe the time is coming but is not here yet.
bottom line isis is backed by qatar and saudi royals ... expect anything and everything.
we are fair game for being hit with nukes now and they will as soon as they can . It’s coming . First strike !
The problem is 911 was inside our borders. The Boston Marathon bombing was inside our borders. Other attempts have been inside our borders. These clowns have already stated they are coming after us. It is a religious war on nonbelievers.
Many things are possible with either a handshake or a symbolic bow.
Like flies to a carcass. Send in the A-10s and load up with plenty of ordnance.
would Turkey let A-10’s fly on missions out of Incilrik ?
When one looks at a map of the region ... nothing there except rock and hard places ....
Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
Same difference.
One and the same.
Pot and kettle.
According to reports we have a base in qatar. According to russia we have three bases in qatar. I do not know how many bases we have in qatar but one has to ask would qatar allow flights out of qatar to attack isis? Remember the Gitmo 5 went to or were handed off to qatar ....
Put ‘em all in one basket.
I’m trying to wake some folks up around here. Nothing to date has. This is the end result of the U. S. packing up and going home. Hopefully this will open some eyes.
I appreciate the mention of that ISIS person. Obviously nukes are a option at some point, but I see them as an absolute last resort.
The live by the sword die by the sword saying has a massive amount of power here.
If we get hit, the gloves are off. IMO, that’s the way it should go down. Of course we should do all we can to avoid it, and if that requires nukes in a verified way, then so be that also.
Saudi Arabia has been moving their troops up north. Why would they do that if they were supportive of ISIS/ISIL?
ISIS/ISIL wants to take over everything for one massive caliphate. Nobody is safe in the region. Jordan is on record as being in danger. Sooner or later all of Syria is gone. Lebanon will go. I’m serious when I say the broom sweeps through the region all the way to Libya.
al Qaeda is peeling off, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Muslim Brotherhood join hands too. Consider the ramifications.
Look, Saudi Arabia has a lot of wealthy people. They give money to all sorts of sordid projects. A number of the 09/11 people came from Saudi Arabia, if I remember accurately. That does not mean the government is all for it.
Remember that the Saudi leadership has a lot of investments in the West. It is not intent on taking the West down destructively. What it’s true thoughts are about Islam becoming dominant in the West is open to interpretation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ultimately support it.
I don’t think the Saudi leadership supports things like 09/11 or other acts of terrorism.
They would be stupid to, because we could kick their ass flat if we wanted to.
