Imagine if Republicans had responded to the push for Obamacare in 2009 by embracing the need for comprehensive health care reform while acceding to all Democrat premises concerning the foundations of health care policy. Ponder for a moment where we would be politically if Republicans had spent the past five years promoting Obamacare and targeting the GOP's own members with millions of dollars worth of ads beckoning conservatives to support Obamas signature legislation. Well, that is exactly what Republicans have done with the immigration debate.
...snip Its time for Republicans to stop running the ball in their own end-zone for the Democrats. Its time for the GOP establishment to do a mea culpa on the immigration issue and stand for Americans first.

Distribute flyers south of the border that say the only way you will be allowed to stay in the U.S. is if you come up carrying incandescent light bulbs and lead paint. And sign it - Obama. Progressives don't care about the flood of drugs and disease, but they will absolutely melt down over incandescent bulbs and lead paint!
Don’t forget the lawn darts ;’)
Yeah, lawn darts! And if they’re coming to California - foie gras!
Uh...run that by us again, please.
You’re saying if illegals come carrying incandescent light bulbs and lead paint, they WOULD be allowed to STAY??
Don’t you mean, they WOULDN’T be allowed to stay?
By the LIBS themselves, because they hate those things?
?
And 5.4 gallon full flush toilets and unpasteurized cheese.
Send another flyer saying, “Sorry but we’re broke. There will be no more free rides.”
Background checks may scare some of them that have been in jail for murder.
Another of my concerns is that they couldn’t read the flyers in either English or Spanish. They’re dumping their uneducated, illiterate, unskilled and criminals on us.
Public opposition to open borders is at least as potent as opposition to Obamacare. Imagine what the polls would look like if Republicans actually embraced the conservative position on this issue and went on offense. Imagine if every Republican candidate in a contentious general election would run ads against Democrats who have voted to give health care to illegals while veterans are waiting in line?
It is the only way to get the left on board to end illegal immigration. I was doing it in a humorous way. At least I thought I was!
Thanks for those! Forgot about the cheese. And to get the ones already legally here to start voting Republican we need to convince the left to ban refried beans (put Mrs O on this, too much fat!) and unpasteurised cheese which from south of the border always seems to come with a side of Listeria. After all, it’s for the children! They will be voting conservative in no time.
Thought of another one... all of the drugs that you can buy over-the-counter down there but need a prescription for up here. Big pharma and the AMA will put the squeeze on Dems in no time flat.
A coordinated message that would resonate with American citizens? That would just be too logical, too effective. How could the stupid party pull it off?
I don’t really believe they are stupid. They are complicit with democrat policies. They care more about letting illegals into this country than they care for our borders, our sovereignty or even our veterans’ lives.
The R Estabs can’t go on offense like Mo Brooks was willing to do, or fight back.
I mean, we might gain ground after all. We might win!!! Boehner can’t have any of THAT.
Illegal immigration and Amnesty are only half the problem.
Conservatives are also being destroyed politically by LEGAL immigration.
In 2013, we issued 1.1 million new Green Cards.
In 2013, we created 750,000 new citizens - they have low voter turnout, but the ones who do vote will vote 80% for the Democrat Party.
In 2013, we had roughly 700,000 foreigners in the USA with work visas - most of those foreign workers could be easily replaced by home grown Americans with similar skills and similar credentials.
Re: “I dont really believe [Republicans] are stupid. They are complicit with democrat policies.”
I agree.
The funny thing is that it is still legal to buy real toilets in Canada, and drive them over the border. I did it when we built our last house. I regret that I could only find the Kohler Wellworth with full-flush. The Eljer and American Standard toilets work better.
Destroying our country’s borders is not “immigration”.
Democrats wouldn’t want open borders if those coming in were not voting Democrat.
Actually I had a really weird thought on the way home last night that ties in with that old expression that liberals can’t stand related too our nation: manifest destiny.
It would require a bit of give and take from all sides but goes like this...offer to Mexico a treaty with the opportunity to become a U.S. territory with the ability for each province/prefecture/jurisdiction to become a state after 5 years.
We give them the ability to become U.S. Citizens - elimnate the whole illegal immigration issue in nearly one swoop (except the asian issue).
BUT we gain all those resources and opportunities for explosive growth - any nationalized items like the national petroleum industry and such gets privatized with proceeds put toward debt and infrastructure build out of the new territories.
If the Pubs propose it - we become stars in the eyes of those who love the U.S. and what to be a part of us anyway. We will have those who are pro-Mexico to work through and gain acceptance, and it’ll probably be more work then most think, some of their political power wouldn’t like the disruption to their comfort and they do have national pride.
They could keep the mexican flag in their state flags if they choose as a historical note...
Then we could build a real wall to interdict a large amount of the drug flow and immigration from central america, destroy the cartels and drug lords in mexico (during the 5 year territorial period only allowing statehood when assured as a condition of the treaty - does anyone know if posse comitatus applies to territories or just states so we could do it right?), and release the entreprenurial spirit of our nation in developing the new resources.
I imagine a large number of the illegals moving back to help grow the territories with what they have learned here over the years and seeing their families again.
I don’t know maybe I just have too long of a drive, but it struck me as an opportunity to regenerate our growth and prosperity while at the same time dealing with a significantly throny issue.
I welcome your thoughts - I’m sure that there are many rough areas but all opportunities have those.
