U.S. President Barack Obama authorized air strikes on Iraq to protect Christians and prevent "genocide" of tens of thousands of members of an ancient sect sheltering on a desert mountaintop from Islamic State fighters threatening to exterminate them.
The United States began to drop relief supplies to refugees from the ancient Yazidi sect, but there was no sign yet of air strikes, which Obama authorized for the first time since pulling troops out in 2011.
... U.S. oil majors Exxon Mobil and Chevron evacuated expatriate staff from Iraqi Kurdistan on Thursday, industry sources said. Smaller oil companies that operate in Kurdistan also evacuated staff and cut back operations, and several saw their shares fall sharply on Thursday and Friday.

This morning I’ve heard a report a couple of times that US planes dropped two 500# bombs on Islamic State artillery in one location. I wonder if that’s it.

He seemed more worried about the sect which worships a fallen arch-angel.

Well, finally. Problem is that Obama's entire presidency, particulary starting with the "arab spring," has endorsed policies that have allowed ISIS and jihad in general to reach the level that it has.
This is too little, too late. Obama can't reverse an entire presidency worth of policy with limited airstrikes.

Obama authorizes Iraq strikes to protect Christians Not buying it for a minute. Barky cares about as much about Christians and Jews as he does for the sanctity of holy matrimony. Even less, I would venture to add.
Someone post that pic of him from the other day where he is shown in a full-face view looking directly into the camera.
One look at those dead eyes and totally blank expression will tell you all you need to know about the soul of the person behind it.

I suspect the Emir has authorized something that began in spite of him and faced him with the necessity of authorizing it or terminating it. Politically the price of terminating the op and thus actively doing something to kill off Christians and other infidels would be too much. Impeachment might be the lesser possibility.

Possibly weak and incompetent. More likely he is simply on the other side. How would a Moslem President of the US act to be the most effective for spreading Islam? If he just tried to declare Sharia his usefulness would end immediately and it wouldn't happen. If he saps and undermines successfully the biggest block to universal Islam then he is being effective and a strong president Emir.Islam easily allies with the Left until the opposition to both is laid low. Then Islam and the Left will engage with each other and Islam is more savage and its adherents much more fanatical.

He already gave the Mohammedan vermin swarm a heads-up, so all it will do is buy some time to relocate the refugees, while the vermin take over the rest of Iraq.
A real president would have started the bombing campaign unannounced until AFTER it had done significant damage to the barbaric, genocidal savages.

I’m pretty sure he never used the word “Christians” in his announcement yesterday.

For the first time in 6 and one half years he has done something I agree with. Let’s hope he holds his ground and keeps shelling the slobs. Now I bet they are questioning divorcing themselves from the A-10 Warthog. This is the perfect airplane for this type of operation.
