Ebola patients in west Africa to be denied experimental drugs used in US
The Manchester Guardian ^ | August 7, 2014 | Sarah Boseley, health editor

West African patients infected with the Ebola virus will not have access to experimental drugs being used to treat American cases of the disease for several months, if at all, Nigerian health authorities said on Thursday.

Health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told a press conference he had asked the US health authorities about the unproven medicines used on two American doctors, but was told such small quantities existed that west Africa would have to wait for months for supplies, even if they were proved safe and effective.

Dr Kent Brantly and Dr Nancy Writebol of the evangelical Christian organisation Samantha's Purse contracted the virus while helping to treat victims in Liberia. They were given the drug ZMapp after being evacuated to the US, and appear to be recovering.

A spokesman for the US Centres for Disease Control said "there are virtually no doses available" and they would take several months to manufacture....

It’s a Japanese drug. Already for sale in Japan. Approved by their own version of the FDA.

Theoretically the FDA would only get involved in its sale in this country.

Why it hasn’t been offered in Africa, from Japan, is a question I’d like to know the answer to.

And another question I’ve got. When our MSM have been discussing possible treatments for ebola, this particular compound is conspicuously absent from their discussions...why?

This drug isn’t ‘untested’. It’s already on sale in Japan.

It’s just never been human tested with Ebola.

Wow, where did you get the ‘force’ bit?

Let me give you an analogy.

Your neighbor has a small fire in his kitchen. He’s fresh out of buckets and water hoses. You however have those in abundance.

Do you wait, until the small fire becomes an inferno and consumes his house, endangering your own before you offer to help him? Or do you say something like ‘well, too bad you can’t afford a water bucket, not my fault!’ and then wonder, as the massive showers of sparks and embers from his now out of control fire begin raining down on your own home if your water bucket and water hose will be enough to save your OWN house?

The body count is nothing to them as long as they’re protected.

Problem is, they have no survival skills and when their support network collapses, they will be the next victims.

And should I die from this, or anything else they do to me, that is the last time they’ll touch me. I know where I’m going when I die and I’m sure that I will not be seeing them again. And they can’t hurt me any more because my soul is secure. This body is going to go sometime anyway.

So true.

I have wondered over the past few days if this particular compound is the elites ‘ace in the hole’ when this comes to the US.

********************************************

That was why I mentioned ‘our’ FDA - it looked to me from the article that they were seeking American FDA approval first for some reason. Maybe the Japanese feel that would help ‘inoculate’ them from law suits or something if they run into problems with the drug in Africa. I don’t know - seems a little weird.

I’m guessing the MSM is ignoring it because it’s really for the “flu” & not a specifically targeted ‘Ebola drug’. That and totally irresponsible and inflammatory reporting. A ‘pill’ isn’t very exciting .... an untested ‘magical serum’ being given to two human guinea pigs is more of a story (?). Plus, if the pill is available to the masses, that doesn’t fit their ‘ethics’ & ‘racism’ memes ... poor black man being denied drugs that white Americans get (they’ve already been spouting this garbage). I don’t try to figure them out so much these days .... just don’t believe much of anything they say (same for the government).

It also doesn’t fit this meme:

I have insomnia & listen to a late night show that discusses all manner of weird stuff - a lot of it is ‘conspiracy theories’ to be sure. I’m fairly common sense, but I have to say, sometimes things come up on that show which DO make a lot of sense, especially in light of the chaos & happenings currently going on around the world. Right now, people in certain circles are very concerned that the Ebola epidemic is going to be ‘used’ to reduce populations and there are enough people out there who have talked about doing it in more serious terms than AlGore which gives some if not substantial credence to the theory.

Depending on who ends up making decisions about drugs going to Africa, etc., I have such mistrust and cynicism regarding our government and others as well, that I could see Ebola being ‘used’ in ways that would be abhorrent to the ‘regular’ folks i.e. not the Lib/Prog/Lefty/World Order/Enviro Whackos (did I leave anybody out?) nutjobs.

BTW, I just about choked on my coffee (drinking it kind of late this morning) when I read this line .... LOL! Gore is SUCH a stinking hypocrite.

Gore, who apparently mismanaged his fertility by having four children,

Not just population reduction. The resulting social chaos would necessitate a firm hand from government.

IIRC Ted Turner also mismanaged his fertility by having FIVE children.

He has nightmares of some poor African couple having the same.

I think this means that we don’t want to be accused of murdering Africans when/if the vaccines don’t work.

Other vaccines/serums are in the works. I’m rather betting on Tekmira, a Canadian company with funding from Monsanto and our very own DOD. Also, Mapp, a company in San Diego, provided zMAPP for the two Americans.

I rather think that the DOD would like to stay in charge of this.

I suspect the preparation used to treat the two Americans cannot be produced quickly enough or in enough quantity to make it a practical tool for the epidemic.

It sounds like a “proof of concept” project which could be useful to guide future research.

My point was this.

You haven’t heard about this particular compound in our MSM.

It’s already in human trials for the flu. It’s a pill, not a serum that requires special handling.

For legal purposes, if it is untested for the disease you are wanting to use it against, the lawyers will eat you alive.

And the bucket analogy is an attempt to work on emotions. There are many diseases in Africa which run rampant because of the cultural mores of most tribal societies. You can throw “water” at it all you want, but if your neighbor keeps lighting torches and throwing them back on the house, you are fighting a losing battle.

As for the Americans who got the different untested drugs in America, they had to give waivers to not sue the company. We are already sending hundreds of CD people, gear and equipment to those countries to help in this situation, we are not withholding buckets and hoses.

I’m sure the AFrican nations being affected would, under the circumstances, waive legal action.

Nigeria is on record begging for any experimental drug.

Our government told them to sod off. Hopefully they’re talking to the Japanese at this point as it’s a Japanese company that’s producing it.

As for the fire reference. Unless you convince your elites to shut down airline travel, any and all fires your neighbor starts will be a problem.

PPE is much less important in the midst of an outbreak than a compound that will work and render the victims less contagious.

One of the big problems is that the medical personnel, who don’t really trust or know how to use the ppe effectively against this (It’s a new disease in west africa) are literally running away from the hospitals. A drug like this would encourage them to stay and perform their duties. You can call them cowards if you wish, but no amount of pay is worth your life under the circumstances that exist there now.

Yep - and if something went wrong, it would be, “the Tuskegee experiment,” all over again.

The west has a bad history of experimenting on African populations. Tuskegee type experiments have happened too many times. Giving them experimental drugs now is walking on ethical thin ice.
