Army promotes first Vietnamese-American general

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — A Fort Hood officer has become the first Vietnamese-American to reach the rank of general in the U.S. Army.

Col. Viet Luong received his brigadier general's stars at a Fort Hood ceremony Wednesday from the Fort Hood commander, Lt. Gen. Mark Milley.

A statement from the military base says Luong was 10 years old when his family fled Vietnam in 1975 and settled in the United States. Today, he is the 1st Cavalry Division deputy commanding general for maneuver and the first Vietnamese-born officer to reach the position of general staff or flag officer in the U.S. military.

If he is qualified, great. I just hope this isn’t some kind of politically-motivated appointment.

Bam Bam has no need to favor Vietnamese. If we were as bigoted as he and his followers try to make us think we are, wed have a problem with this and then he’d use it.

I enlisted during the Carter administration and many here were drafted or joined during LBJ’s tenure. It’s about the country, although Carter then and Carter now were two different people or he hid it better.

Many immigrants I have met from communist/socialist countries also favor repubs, such as Czechs, Poles. Only those in blue collar jobs in a union vote democrat.

Many stayed home last 2 elections and foisted Obummer on us. I can not see how Obummer is better than either McCain or Romney, even though I do not like either of them.

I do not like McCain, but maybe he'd have had the good taste to have had an aneurysm, and we'd have gotten his Vice-President to be in charge.

But like you said, either McCain or Romney would have been much better than the monstrosity currently camping out in our White House.

Looking at the pic you posted he looks like, “hard ass, kick ass Army Green. If he is anything like the Vietnamese that I know who fled Vietnam, he will do good.
