Back when I was a visiting professor in Turkey, I gave a faculty seminar on the organization of American political parties (I had been Republican Central Committee chairman for my county for several terms). After I gave my presentation, I got a question from the audience about how we raised money for the Party. I told them that in my county, it was traditional to have a hog roast. I don't think they were going to copy that.
