Despite concerns around the globe that the Ebola virus may continue to spread and mutate into something even more deadly, the director of the CDC attempted to assuage fears about the possibility of an outbreak on U.S. soil.
It is not a potential of Ebola spreading widely in the U.S., director Thomas Friedman told reporters on a conference call Thursday. That is not in the cards.
But while the CDC downplays the potential threat, emergency planners behind the scenes have been getting ready since as early as April of this year. In a report presented to Congress while the virus was spreading in West Africa, the Department of Defense said that it has dispatched biological detection kits to National Guard units in all 50 states with the capability of diagnosing the virus in infected patients in as little as 30 minutes.
And, in a move that raised some eyebrows this morning, President Obama amended a 2003 Executive Order that gives the Federal government, as noted by Paul Joseph Watson, the power to mandate the apprehension and detention of Americans who merely show signs of respiratory illness.

Gonna admit...I’m a tad (okay, a lot) distressed by the ENTIRE Commonwealth of PA being yellow.

If you are showing signs of respiratory illness, no matter the cause, you can be placed in a detention facility where you will most likely contract ebola from someone who actually has the virus. This is outrageous. Note that Seattle is one of the cities that has a detention facility.
The ends justify the means.
You’d think that they would try to keep airborne viruses out of major cities. They seem to have deliberately chosen the largest city in each region to host the facilities.

I predict that the Christian, Bo, will fulfill Biblical prophecy - plagues.
They could use those remote Google server farms.
Hundreds of thousands of sparsely populated federal land available and the quarantine areas are all in population centers????
Bttt
Nothing in Denver?
I’m not buying that.

Yikes. I won't be showing up at my primary care doc or the minor emergency clinic with any respiratory complaints any time soon.

Laz, thanks. Frankly, I got really pissed and I decided to take a couple month’s hiatus from things and chill out and hope things get better. I haven’t even looked at FR since my post to you then. I missed it but resisted the urge to even look. I’ve been spending some time online trying to disperse logic and reason and conservative thought in more traditional venues and it has been a busy time I’ll tell you for sure.
With this latest scare and some of the things I see about Ebola and our government’s response and statements, I am not encouraged, but I will try to embrace some of your confidence in CDC.
At least each state will now have an Ebola Hospital at which we can all get treated. My bet is on Grady. No other “for profit” hospital will vie for that distinction, frankly.
Imagine prospective new mother-to-be, or any prospective elective surgery patient being confronted with the question “should I have my whatever done at _________?” You know what the answer is going to be. GRADY - and they will demand millions for that ‘honor’.
