As the first Israel troops began pulling out of the Gaza Strip Saturday night, Aug. 2, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu pledged that Operation Defense Edge would continue until security and calm are restored to all Israels citizens however long it takes. But in his televised news conference, he also said: The IDF will deploy according to the needs of Israels security and only Israels security.
After expressing deep gratitude to the American people and its leaders for their support, Netanyahuu underlined the importance of the links Israel had established with regional countries as a great asset for the future.
In the view of debkafiles military experts, Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon have been guided in their management of the Gaza operation by four major misapprehensions:
1. That Hamas wanted a ceasefire;
2. That the Hamas tunnel network has been largely discovered and disabled;
3. That Hamas will take years to recover from the thrashing the IDF administered in the 25 days of its counter-terror operation in the Gaza Strip. (Netanyahu: We struck many thousands of terror targets and many hundreds of terrorists.)
4. That rocket fire will die down after Hamas fully appreciates the terrible devastation its war has inflicted on the Gaza Strip population.
The slogans of the last four weeks reflected these assumptions: Quiet will be met with quiet was one, or We shall degrade Hamas military strength, and Well wipe out Hamas entire tunnel empire.
But a change in tenor was apparent Saturday night: Variations on the theme of No accommodation, only deterrence were to be heard, as well as No more ceasefires, and Well end the operation unilaterally as and when it suits our security needs.

“IDF will continue its mission according to Israel’s security needs” - Netanyahu
Netanyahu does not want to bomb his own troops?
.
Sometimes its easier to spot targets from a distance.
This could be Hugh and Series.
I pray for Israel but I really thought this time they would completely take HAMAS out of the picture.

It should be possible to determine the full range of the tunnel system by flooding it, either with a gas mixture or water. Given the shortage of water in the area, a gas might be the better choice.
A variety of remote sensing systems could detect where the gas leaked from openings, and in the crudest case where a flammable gas is used the location of tunnel openings would be easily determined.
Clever idea! I hope the IDF reads this thread.
Level northern Gaza and place an embargo on the concrete.
...”where a flammable gas is used”...
Fuel air explosives and other thermobaric weapons pack the biggest punch per pound, and are particularly well suited for tunnels - the suck the air out, and their blast waves are contained for greater effect. They should be able to rig a sprayer/detonator on a jerry can, to drop off a little inside the entrance and come back through after the boom. Send the robot with it.
A raid on HQ with multiple fuel air explosions would set them scurrying in circles for a while.
Aerosol marker agents blown through the tunnels could help identify more, or they could hit a jackpot with human sources or discovering some plans or maps, if they continued operating there, rather than standing outside popping artillery.
I have used smoke testing to trace sewers. Smoke bombs and a blower....and go look for smome coming out of the ground. They could even use colored smoke. Or they cod use cs gas to flush leoe out of the buildings the shafts lead to.
So we can go through this all over again in a few years.
