An American doctor stricken by Ebola in West Africa arrived home for treatment in Atlanta on Saturday, and U.S. government officials are urging the public to remain confident in the health-care systems ability to keep the deadly disease isolated.
A charity organization, Samaritans Purse, said two Americans in serious condition with the disease were being evacuated: Kent Brantly, a Fort Worth doctor who had been treating Ebola victims in Liberia, and Nancy Writebol, a missionary from Charlotte.
Brantly and Writebol have been hospitalized in serious condition in Monrovia, the Liberian capital. Brantly was brought back to the United States first, in a specially equipped air ambulance aircraft that landed Saturday at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, in the northwest Atlanta suburbs, according to news reports.

I had Rush's program on for a little while yesterday. He mentioned the possible theory that Obama might believe it's unfair for Africa to suffer through Ebola while America goes unaffected.

Check out the story linked in this thread. It’s by Preston who is mentioned in this wapo piece. If what he writes is accurate I think bringing this man to the US was a grave error.
I think that stuff is made of tyvec.
I was wondering about that.
It would seem to me that maintaining a strong immune system would reduce our risk, at least to some degree. But from what I’ve seen nobody has even tried to address that.
Incorrect. "Palliative" treatments are likely to significantly increase the chance of survival. We don't know because past victims were almost all treated in locations where truly modern care was unavailable.
Finding out whether treatment can be even partially effective is a plus to this scenario.
For example, prior to the 2001 anthrax attacks we believed those infected died at about the rates for Ebola. We now know that antibiotic treatments, if started in time, are quite effective.
Another example. Until fairly recetly it was believed that rabies was by definition fatal. In the last 10 years or so, several people have survived, due to effective supportive care, not specific treatments, which still don't exist.
I hope they quarantine the Peace Corps volunteers.
But I’m more concerned about the 10 “African leaders” and their vast retinues coming into DC for Bambi’s latest stunt.
I would doubt that the leaders have been exposed but they usually travel with huge entourages, and I don’t think they’re getting any particular scrutiny.
‘BHO ... will find a way to create yet another unnecessary crisis for his own enjoyment.’
You nailed it. ‘No Drama Obama’ has to have a three ring circus of chaos & crises going on around him in order to feel good/in control. Now that his poll #s are underwater to stay it takes more and more chaos & manufactured crises to keep him on even a semi-even keel. It will get worse from here.
Is the Doctors nickname Patient Zero?

Appreciate the links and recommend them to other FReepers.
Extremely perceptive! My guess is that these do-gooders will come back on commercial or chartered flights, and be waived through customs with only a cursory glance. From there, they catch flights to everywhere in the Country. Barry's plan to destroy America will be a full throttle.
Should have sent who to Gitma and why?
PPE is made from a variety of materials, depending on what it’s supposed to protect you from. The suits in the picture are probably Tyvek, intended to protect against particles and droplets, but not concentrations of liquids. The advantage of Tyvek is that it’s breathable. Once you go to the impermeable suits, it gets really, really hot in there.
I’m more interested that the guy on the left appears to be wearing a PAPR (powered air purifying air respirator), whereas the guy on the the right presumably has an APR on. Can’t really tell from the photo.
A PAPR is MUCH more comfortable and less tiring to use, though also obviously more cumbersome.
Reads like the beginning of a horror movie.
Oh oh.
There's a little detail that has gone, how shall we say, “under reported.’
I don't necessarily disagree. But selflessness is not a common virtue.
As I understand it there was one vial of possible vaccine, and the doctor asked that it be given to the American woman with it. Pretty selfless if you ask me.
I got a feeling these two are going to be pin cushions for the CDC.
