Republicans on K street are helping members of their party shift their stance on gay rights issues.
Kathryn Lehman, a top GOP lobbyist and partner at Holland and Knight carries a list of 40 to 50 Republican offices in the House and Senate she visits on behalf of Freedom to Marry, a group that backs same-sex marriage.
"The issue is losing its toxicity from a Republican perspective," she said, mentioning that the list was a fraction of that size when she first took on Freedom to Marry as a client in 2011.
Lehman... helped to write the Defense of Marriage Act while working on Capitol Hill...

That said, I think it shouldn't be call marriage. It should be civil unions..not marriage. ( I agree with you on marriage. Marriage is between a male and female.)
Limited government should not tell free citizens what do do. That is from drinking a 64oz soda, having guns, sunbathing (surgeon General wants us to quit tanning... screw that) or seat belts. it is not the job of the Federal Government.
So, you don't think the sanctity of marriage is a major issue?
No matter how bad it gets, we can always close the border.
If 2nd Amendment rights are violated, they can be restored.
"States rights" don't even exist. PEOPLE have rights, states have enumerated powers, there IS a difference. However, as I demonstrated earlier, marriage IS a federal issue due to the the Full Faith and Credit Clause and the 14th Amendment.
Taxes have always gone up and down, as has employment, to think that anything done on these is ever permanent is naive.
Marriage, on the other hand, is something that CANNOT be undone in any reasonable manner once it's changed. Once the genie is out of the bottle it will be almost impossible to put back in.
So, it seems that you consider issues that are largely cyclical to be major, but you consider the destruction of a 6000 year old institution to be unimportant.
That said, I think it shouldn't be call marriage. It should be civil unions..not marriage.
Legal unions between individuals have ALWAYS existed; they are referred to, among other things, as partnerships and corporations.
I agree with you on marriage. Marriage is between a male and female.
This sounds like the pro-same-sex "marriage" version of, "I'm personally opposed, but..."
Do you believe in STATE’S RIGHTS? I do.. I think if citizens of a state voted for gay marriage (not through the courts but voted for it), shouldn’t it be recognized?

Conversely - if the majority of citizens vote AGAINST queer marriages shouldn’t THAT be recognized?
As you should know - Black robed thugs (federal courts) are rejecting States Rights and imposing their own will against the majority. How are they doing that?
Because liberals like you don’t give a damn about social issues on a national level (Like The Defense of Marriage Act) and as a result we are screwed.
I see you ignored my points I made about DOMA. I shall repeat: Because DOMA was overturned; we now have queer marriages pending even in states that voted against that issue.
But - according to you - Fedgov involvement in marriages is always wrong, so you must be fine and happy with the aftermath of queer marriages.
Right?
When do the American people get a lobby? These are supposedly our representatives. When do we get some representation?
Civil Unions? Sheesh, we lost that battle years ago. And because the libs were willing to cave on that issue - the queers pushed their agenda further. Now we fight Civil Marriages. And because the libertarians are caving there also, we now see evern more perversions on the horizon.
For the first and so far only time in over 20,000 posts on this site, “check my tagline”.
So...you don't care about murder of infants? You don't mind the normalization and embrace of sick perversion? IYO, those who do care are stupid?
Sounds like you're in dire need of a moral compass.
If you had a belief in God, you would understand the utter foolishness of that statement.
“Joining the left in supporting either of these issues, is tantamount to telling God that He is wrong.”
They are already telling God that He is wrong WRT divorce, birth control, fornication, and for the most part, sodomy.
They are inviting leftards to skew Republican primaries.
It is not true that every Republican is a scumbag, but the Republican Party now tolerates scumbags in positions of authority.
I have been a registered independent for a few weeks now.
We conservatives need a new party. The GOP if they turn away and support gay marriage are dead to me now.
Beck must be back on the bottle-—he’s said some really dopey stuff lately. Kind of like he’s trying to be everybody’s friend again. And this Lehman chick must mean by “less toxic” that she is getting thrown out of fewer offices on capitol hill now?
What? Well I get about a cubic foot of fund raising mail from them every month. I’m up to about 2025 with a supply of fire starters. How they can send out so much mail and still say absolutely nothing is the 8th wonder of the modern world. Occasionally I write back and ask what the actual platform is? In 40 years or so I’ve never gotten a reply. And it’s been a couple decades since I’ve actually send the RNC any money——not sure why they keep writing?
I don’t support people who wish to define sodomy as marriage.
The Republican party can rot in hell if that is their position. I sure won’t join them.
I would change the world can to will. Can implys we are doing something to prevent them when in fact we have nothing to do with their very much natural problems.
I haven’t watched Glenn Beck since he left Fox. Does he even sincerely promote Christianity?
I don’t listen much but all I’ve heard is him promote faith and not religion
If the body politic as a whole goes looie on marriage it will only serve as a lesson on what you get when you put a matter of this degree of spiritual importance in Caesar’s hands. They might CALL it marriage but it ain’t marriage, any more than the ocean is fresh water.
Your first post was far more respectful of your intended audience.
Even homos can marry in the normal manner.
