Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says there should be no debate unaccompanied, undocumented immigrant children who cross the border into the U.S. should have a home in the city of Atlanta.
Reed held a news conference on the issue Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
He said the city of Atlanta will be a safe place for the unattended children. Reeds comments came after Gov. Nathan Deal recently sent a letter to President Obama, asking him to stop sending unaccompanied illegal children to Georgia.
"I'm going to send a message in no uncertain terms that these children need a safe place, and a safe haven. The city of Atlanta is going to be that," he said.
Reed said it's the moral and right thing to do.
The fact of the matter is, we have a growing immigrant population in the metropolitan region and in the state, and it's very important that we send a signal that we're going to be a welcoming community and we're going to allow these folks to be trained and treat them well," said Reed.
Deals office said 1,154 unaccompanied illegal immigrant children have been placed in Georgia.
Channel 2's Dave Huddleston wanted to ask the governor about Reeds comments, but his staff said he would address the issue Wednesday.
"I haven't read the governors letter, but Im not surprised. Were just on a different place on this," Reed said.
Another politician with no problem spending other people’s money.
No surprise there.
Atlanta’s inner city is a safe place for illegal immigrant kids??? Suddenly, I’m feeling sorry for the illegals...
What’s wrong with the 50+ other sanctuary cities across America, hmm? Oh, right, Georgia is one of the redder states of the nation. Best to ship illegals to red states, isn’t it, Democrats?
Good let em live in his part of town and see how long that lasts...
The thousands of immigrants who die in Mexico on the way to America? Too bad, so sad , but can’t make a permanent Democrat voting majority without breaking some eggs.
it’s very important that we send a signal that we’re going to be a welcoming community
That’s in keeping with the Obama plan to continue the
onslaught on our border.
Oh, thank god I moved out of that democrat run hell hole years ago.
So how many of these waifs is Mayor Reed going to support at his house and for how long? That should be the first question the media asks when a politician comes out in favor of illegal immigration.
OK, so this muzzie mayor is telling the black folks of Atlanta that they must get in back of the line, because the illegal alien kids are pushing to the front. I ask you, what are blacks in Atlanta thinking...what are they saying about this muzzie mayor’s decision? Any info coming out of Atlanta?
The Party of Detroit.
NOT A PEEP.
For those of you unfamiliar with Atlanta city government, whites need not apply.
