LOUISVILLE High profile Democrats from across the state came together in Louisville Thursday night at the annual Wendell Ford Dinner to rally around Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes and roast Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.
To the chant of amen Grimes rallied 700 Democrats in a showing of solidarity in her campaign against the most powerful Republican in the United States. With just months left to go Grimes and McConnell remain in a virtual dead heat in the polls, and the Democratic Secretary of State told the crowd shes primed to go all the way.
Grimes told the crowd that she has put her life on the line in the race against McConnell, and with the help of the party she is on the verge of making history.
....
The Grimes campaign brought in $4 million in the 2nd Quarter of the year in donations a record Kentucky campaign haul.
Grimes has been trying to seek distance from President Barack Obama during the course of election as McConnell has tried to nationalize the race as a referendum on Obama and coal.
And, Thursday night Grimes lambasted McConnell saying he just doesnt get it. Thats how out of touch he is.
.....
Also key for Democrats this fall is holding onto the House of Representatives, the chamber the party has their slimmest majority since the 1920s and holding the House and defeating McConnell were the themes for the evening.
Attorney General Jack Conway, who is running for governor in the next cycle, said his focus is on 2014 and not 2015.
We have a job to do. We have a state House, the peoples house, that must be held not for a party but for the people that are served by that party, Conway said.

McConnell will be an easy target to roast.
LOL at Slick Willy undoing what Obama has done to the Demoncratic party.
yes he is but he’s OUR pig to roast....rather him then some democrat leftist which is what all dems are....leftist...
I’m sure that they got a big boost at the dinner, what with all those conservatives showing up to offer their support. I wonder if they had to hire a bigger hall than they had last year.
Just like she did on prom night, waka waka!!!
I really hope the GOP is able to take the State House (for the first time in state history?), it's past time.
It's also time to win the Governorship again. Is any Republican besides Hal Heiner gonna run for Governor next year?
Ag Commish James Comer, the only Republican in statewide state office, announces his gubernatorial bid.
Conway versus Comer. Comer was the top vote getter in the 2011 election. He won by almost 28 points, Conway won by 10.
Hopefully it won’t be a GOP primary bloodbath. I’m dubious about the Heiner-K.C. Crosbie ticket. Linking two urban pols (Louisville & Lexington) will be off-putting to the rest of the state (as Louisville-centered candidates aren’t well regarded). Crosbie couldn’t win her race for Treasurer in 2011, either.
Comer’s landslide victory in 2011 was due partly to his Dem opponent being a fiasco.
Conway has been effectively coronated by the Dems, but we know he can be beaten. It’s way past time the Dem control of state government was smashed to pieces.
