Obama is directly responsible for this. His abdication of the US role in stamping out Islamism in the ME is setting us up for WWI redux. Maybe he’s doing it to celebrate the anniversary in August?
Seriously, he favors Islam because (a) he’s sort of a Muslim, the way many leftists are attracted to Islam because it’s authoritarian, and of course he grew up in a Muslim country; and (b) it’s the most anti-Western, anti-rational thing around, and he hates the West.
So abdicating the US role in stabilizing these places was his way of dealing with it. The problem is that he’s too stupid and uniformed historically to realize that this abdication of power and weakening of the great powers was exactly what set up WWI and let a tiny regional conflict set fire to the world.
9 million combatants were killed. And that’s only combatants, and before they had the weapons we have now.
