The figures, released late Thursday, cap the fine for not buying insurance at $2,448 per person and $12,240 for a family of five. The standard rule of thumb is 2% of household income, with a minimum of $325 per person.
The caps are equal to the national average premium for a bronze-level health plan.
Those who choose to go uninsured will owe one-twelfth of the annual payment for each month they or their dependents dont have either coverage or an exemption, the IRS said.
All fines will be due during tax return season, which can be deducted from tax refunds.

Becoming an Indian might be easier ...:^)
Exempt groups from the IRS web site -
Religious conscience. You are a member of a religious sect that is recognized as conscientiously opposed to accepting any insurance benefits. The Social Security Administration administers the process for recognizing these sects according to the criteria in the law.
2.Health care sharing ministry. You are a member of a health care sharing ministry.
3.Indian tribes. You are (1) a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe or (2) an individual eligible for services through an Indian care provider.

Thanks for the info. I bet conservative legal groups will take full advantage of that and people will follow their advice on taking advantage of it.
Excellent points.
Remember that you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent!
This is a disgrace.
Well OK that seems fair. $12,000 per year per family, everyone can certainly afford that.

Word of wisdom,, NEVER TALK TO THE IRS! No different than the police.
If you ignore that one line then it's not added. Sure they'll still come after you
with Guns, maybe SWAT and kill your Dog and throw a Smoke grenade in your kids crib
but hey, you're an evil lawbreaker.
They keep changing up the goal posts on this Zerocare law but the courts
don't seem to be buying their outright deceptive lies. One by one this fiasco
is falling apart and all the (D) lawyers in DC are scrambling to make
the whole law a gray issue by changing intentions that are not in there.
We shall see. I'm not paying a red cent for this crap either.
The really bad news is that your federal withholding can be applied to Obmacare payment BRFORE Federal Income Taxes.
“I know you’re trying to say they’ll ignore it, ok but that
would not hold up in court if They changed the document you filed.”
Don’t have to change the document only the definition of the words. The IRS is good at this. The first court that you encounter would be the tax court. Very few winners here. You can appeal to federal court. Be prepared to spend a lot of time and spend a lot of money. During the time you are fighting this the interest and penalty costs on your unpaid taxes will sky rocket.

“I hope the Media get what they deserve for the destruction theyre causing this country. Obama is getting more obstinate and we aint seen nothin yet.”
There is always a need for political propagandists. The medium/technology may change, but the message will always be there.

Are you excusing the media?
“Are you excusing the media?”
Seriously? I wouldn’t raise a finger to stop anyone from butchering them alive. They’ve become the tools of our oppressors, and are as culpable as death camp commandants.
Thanks for the much needed clarification.
$10k annually for the average family... that’s a lot of money that could otherwise cover food, pharmacy, and clinic costs.
I know for a fact that my short term health insurance policy doesn't meet minimum level requirements (the insurance company discloses that to me every time I renew it). But it doesn't matter; because I am also a member of a health sharing ministry, I am exempt. I did the math, and because I didn't quality for Obamacare subsidies but I wanted insurance, the short-term insurance + health sharing ministry was the best value option. Short Term insurance has all my doctors and takes care of paperwork, but the health sharing ministry helps me avoid Obamacare penalties.
I’m glad you are exempted - truly. I wish all Americans were exempted from it.
If I had to choose between giving the IRS more money and the health sharing ministry the money, the health sharing ministry wins hands down.
