Leadership: Just three days after President Obama delivered his "get tough" speech on Ukraine aimed squarely at Vladimir Putin, Russia's president has responded not with words, but deeds.
Obama has been lauded for his speech on Monday regarding Russia's role in downing Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, killing 298 people.
"Russia has extraordinary influence over these (Russian) separatists," the commander-in-chief said sternly. "No one denies that. Russia has urged them on. Russia has trained them. We know that Russia has armed them with military equipment and weapons, including anti-aircraft weapons. Key separatist leaders are Russian citizens."
Sounds like he was ready to lower the boom. But he didn't. Instead, he called on Putin to "cooperate with the investigation" and warned "Russia will only further isolate itself from the international community." Boy, that must have made Putin quake.
A picture is emerging here of the Russian dictator. Whether seizing Crimea, launching a cyberattack on tiny Estonia, bullying the Czech Republic and Poland, maneuvering to cut Ukraine to pieces, overseeing the assassination of journalists and former spies, aiding rogue Syria and Iran, or most recently reopening a Soviet-era spy base in Cuba, he feels empowered, emboldened even, by the weak response in the West.
But can't we just push the reset button? Sorry, but no. As Commentary Magazine's Max Boot reminds us, Europe's leaders can't even agree to stiffen the piddling sanctions now in place against Russia.

I caught the part where Putin is not scared. I seemed to have missed the portion where Obama talked tough.
Great point...Obama has an inflated ego and thinks foreign leaders listen to him.
A girly man can talk as tough as he wants to but no one takes him seriously.
scared? of O?
(satire, right?)
That says it all about The Won.
Great point...Obama has an inflated ego and thinks foreign leaders listen to him.”
His ego made him think that once he was elected he would automatically command respect from other world leaders. This is the first time in his life he has actually had to earn something instead of being patted on the head and told what a smart boy he is by mommy and all the rest of his bizarre influences.
Putin probably has a detailed file on Obama. I hope he releases it.
Note how once again Obama will prevaricate to make himself the guru of knowledge. It has been shown that such missiles were present in all of Ukraine and as such available to all parties to the disputes/war. To say Russia used a missile to shoot down the plane is stretch of facts but Obama is an expert at pantomiming facts.
If Obama is willing to lead Western nations in cutting off flights to Israel’s airport, why isn’t Obama willing to punish Putin for his actions in Ukraine by leading the same nations in cutting off flights to Moscow’s airport?
There would be no military involvement by us, it would just be a boycott, and it would only have to last for a few days. But Obama’s only reaction to Putin and everything he does has always been FEAR.
So Putin is allowed to bestride the world like a colossus, with no opposition from the West and friendships with all the BRICS countries and any other country he wants to ally Russia with.
Vlad drops pieces of himself into the stool tougher than Barry.
They circle the bowl, flexing their muscles and mocking him.
The only people in the world afraid of Obama are US governors and the GOP-e.
