TOWN OF WALLKILL

Add this to the list. Lets just say its too late - this breed has been compromised genetically with a Time Bomb gene. An insurance policy to own one and mandatory 30 day jail time if your precious mauls a child.
The real problem with these dogs is that they don't really attack people a lot more often than other breeds... but when they do, the consequences are much greater. A Jack Russl may bite the hell out of you, but a PB will do a lot more damage on average and have a much greater chance of killing you. I think this is why we hear about it so often.
I'm not a PB apologist and I'd never own one of the damned things. In fact, I think if you dog bites someone, it should be a mandatory year in the stoney-lonesome. I'm just trying to look at it logically... and that leads me to believe these animals are too dangerous to be kept as pets.
has sent samples to a lab to determine if the dog had rabies.

Well isn’t this a conflict of interest? Having one breed of dog determine the illness of another breed.
The lab will proclaim the pitbull guilty.
More food for the lab.
There are some elements in this that are unusual. Were I involved with this, I would get that rabies test done as a very high priority. And if it’s not rabies, that dog should be autopsied from stem to stern, especially its brain.
Primary brain tumors seen in dogs include meningioma, glioma, choroid plexus papilloma, pituitary adenoma or adenocarcinoma, and others.
>>The owner said he got the dog to let go of the childs face. I wish I knew how he managed to do that. <<
Use your thumbs and put pressure on their eye balls. No animal or human can tolerate strong pressure on the eyes.
Agreed -- According to the article, Gardner said that his dog had had all his shots.
Interesting. One of those JRT’s has had to have his eyeballs removed the other one is a certified therapy dog and I would hesitate to damage his eyeballs. I will stick to the water treatment.
My 18 y.o. daughter volunteers at the county animal shelter and at least half the dogs there are pits or part pit. It is a VERY common breed here in Alabama.
I sometimes help her out by running the pits in the yard and playing with them. They are all happy dogs and friendly.
The whole article is to me VERY unusual dog behavior, even for a pit bull.
I don’t hate/love the breed, but if we killed all the pit bulls as a matter of course, we’d wipe out a huge percentage of dogs down here, where any dog attack is still a rare thing, given the numbers of people and dogs.
The thing that stood out for me in the article was the police didn't shoot it. They had a catch pole etc. Other places just shoot.
From the article: "Police eventually had to use a Taser, a ballistic shield and a catch pole to restrain the dog. I'm willing to bet that the dog dropped dead from sudden cardiac arrest as a result of being zapped by the Taser.
I suspect that the police didn't shoot because the incident occurred indoors in a multifamily residence where the risk of collateral damage was too great.
I wondered about the effects of the taser too. Hopefully they’ll follow up on the story.
Pit bull owners are criminal scum.
I assume it’s because the hysteria surrounding pits is unfounded. It’s more indicative of mass psychogenic illness than anything else. There ARE facts regarding this, and they are as follows:
1) Visual identification for dogs does not work and is in fact significantly worse than random chance (83% inaccurate according to studies).
2) APBTs and ASTs are better than average in terms of temperament.
3) There is a significant statistical correlation with psychotic and violent tendencies of owners and violent actions of their dogs (it IS actually the owner and not the dog).
4) Pits are no more likely to be aggressive than any other breed.
Please resume your regularly scheduled hysteria. Make sure you tell us all about the other epidemics in the United States as well.
Stating the obvious makes you a genius? Liontamers regularly allow their feline friends to lick their face. Shouldn’t they also be allowed to enter the public square and mingle with the children? Keep your dog. Just be prepared to go to jail for a long time if it rips the face off of an innocent toddler. And if that happens, PRAY that the toddler doesn’t belong to me.
Chet was right. Hope you’re well, Chet- wherever you are.
