Why would you spend millions of dollars sending troops to the border who can't actually detain anyone? That's what some Texas sheriffs of border towns are asking in the wake of Gov. Rick Perry's plan to send 1,000 National Guards members to the Texas/Mexico border in the next month, according to the Dallas Morning News. For them, it would be more useful to spend the money on hiring more deputies and police, aka people who are allowed to detain migrants.
I dont know what good they can do, Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio told the Dallas Morning News. You just cant come out here and be a police officer. Lucio and other sheriffs said they weren't consulted before Perry's announcement and, in Lucio's opinion, the police and Border Patrol agents were handling the small uptick in crime. "At this time, a lot of people do things for political reasons. I dont know that it helps, Lucio said.

There was no need for you to do all that work (unless anyone else cares). I know the woman is a far left kook. And given the color of her skin she’s no doubt taking orders from the Obama admin. But, thanks, I guess.
You're welcome, South40. If you knew she was a far left kook, then why bother giving her nonsense credence?
Reading a local Pennysaver beats muddling through a lefty's scribbles, plus there's a chance of finding a Sudoku puzzle inside a Pennysaver. Ain't we got fun. /s
Thanks for exposing this minor league propagandist.
May they all share Goebbels fate
I don't believe I or anyone else here has given her nonsense credence. I posted her piece because it provided quotes from the sheriffs' of South Texas. Did you know their opinion of Perry's worthless gesture of bringing up the guard? I didn't, and I'm sure many who have read it didn't either. Anyway...
I've eaten at Roberto's in Del Mar, not sure if there is another.
Perhaps it is a matter of perception. Nonsense at the beginning is no less nonsense if repeated or if a quote is added. Nonsense repeated often enough unfortunately becomes believed, but still remains nonsense. If a writer lies or greatly exaggerates one part of a story, then how would someone determine if any other part is truthful?South40 wrote: "I've eaten at Roberto's in Del Mar, not sure if there is another."
The writer's history then is relevant and demonstrates the writer's pattern of deceit. Toss out the entire article when the opening premise fails. The story doesn't get better, the truth doesn't somehow magically appear, quote or not. How often have people been misquoted yet very few bother reading the correction the next day and even less connect it to the original story and even less change their original perception from their first errant read.
There's a Roberto's in Ocean Beach on Voltaire Street right down by the beach, about a block away. The O.B. Roberto's is where I've seen Rolls Royces, Porsches, Beamers, Range Rovers lined up in the drive-thru. There are many Roberto's all over San Diego County - there's one in Old Town, one in Oceanside ... well here's the link Robertos Locations
After looking at that link I have to admit I'm a little sad to see that instead of moving North, they went East and now have many Roberto's in Nevada. Good for Nevada, sad for anyone North of San Diego. :(
No, darlin. Thatd be 1241 miles. The NG has the power to detain.
************************
Also, several hundred miles of the TX border would require scaling cliffs up to 400 feet high.
IMO, the people saying the NG can’t detain illegals is wrong. Posse Comatatis (sp?) restricts the military from acts against US citizens. ...It doesn’t restrict acts against border invaders.
Liberal sheriffs speak up. Can’t make Obama look bad. Btw wizeazzes. The thousand guards aren’t meant to cover the entire border. They are for specific hot spots (ie Rio Grande). There are miles and miles of border that is a dead zone.
Then you do NOT understand the mission of Security.
Even banks have a lazy ass person sitting in their lobby because “A BODY does some deterring of criminals, that’s a fact.
Have you visited your Congressman? If no, why not? It is not only up to Perry. You need to let your Congressman know that a do nothing Congress is not acceptable. That’s YOUR job, have you done it yet?
A bunch of soldiers with no ammo in their weapons and no authority to shoot even if they did, is no help at all.
*****************************
What’s the source of that statement that they will have no ammo or authority to shoot?
I am FAR from a Rick Perry fan, but giving our Boarder Patrol an extra 1,000 persons to help out with ANYTHING, even taking out the trash, will help them DO THEIR JOB, assuming their bosses in DC allow it.
...and their instructions can, and likely will, change. It is certainly better than doing nothing and just whining.
General comment for those who are wondering about TX NG law enforcement authority etc.
Posse Comitatus applies to Federal troops- meaning that NG on State Duty are not necessarily limited by PC. They can be granted LE powers to arrest detain etc. PC applies to NG only when on Federal Duty as US Army personnel.
There are more details and specifics, but Gov. Perry could give them a fairly wide amount of LE authority.
Perhaps the Texas Gov. should give the order to “shoot on sight” anyone close or near to the American side of the border. That just might reduce the number who try to cross illegally. Would that make the Sheriff’s happy?
(Geeesh, that might even work)
The NG isn't being sent to patrol the border but to relieve the BP of taking care of illegals so they can do their job ...patrolling the border.

Link to the NGB reg regarding SAD and LE operations....
Nice dodge with respect to the opinions and quotes of the Border Sheriffs.
They mistakenly killed a Mexican American teenager.
The kid was grazing the goats and didn't know the Marines were close by. He was plinking with a 22, the marines thought he was shooting at them and killed him.
That event will drive the terms and conditions under which the prez or a guv sends active duty or reserve to the border.
