Imagine if I were to tell you there is a large group of government employees, with generous salaries and ridiculously cushy retirement pensions covered by the taxpayer, who enjoy incredible job security and are rarely held accountable even for activities that would almost certainly earn the rest of us prison time. When there is proven misconduct, these government employees are merely reassigned and are rarely dismissed. The bill for any legal settlements concerning their errors? It, too, is covered by the taxpayers. Their unions are among the strongest in the country.
No, Im not talking about public-school teachers.
Im talking about the police.
We conservatives recoil at the former; yet routinely defend the latter even though, unlike teachers, police officers enjoy an utter monopoly on force and can ruin or end ones life in a millisecond.
On Thursday in Staten Island, an asthmatic 43-year-old father of six, Eric Garner, died after a group of policemen descended on him, placing him in a chokehold while attempting to arrest him for allegedly selling cigarettes. A bystander managed to capture video in which Garner clearly cries out, I cant breathe! Even after releasing the chokehold (chokeholds, incidentally, are prohibited by NYPD protocol), the same officer then proceeds to shove and hold Garners face against the ground, applying his body weight and pressure on Garner, ignoring Garners pleas that he cannot breathe. Worse yet, new video shows at least eight officers standing around Garners lifeless, unconscious body.

That is a Peace Officer.
The others are Nazis authorized to shoot what ever because they have a badge and gun.
You are a great cop...!
This isn’t about individual cops. Its about a system that has gone amuck.
Cops are supposed to be peace officers, not a paramilitary army of occupation that can get away with anything it chooses.
The militarization of the police in place of a the citizen National Guard is one of the gravest threats to individual civil liberties in America today.
And remember, unlike nearly all other government officials and employees, hey ultimately answer to no one but themselves.
I defend them when they are right, but criticize them when they are wrong and the author of this piece is dead right on.
Never let the government unionize against you.
Who can stop the police today? It will take a huge, long term national campaign, to get the police back under the control of the citizens.
It will be the democrats and the left against the conservatives, it wont start completely that way at first, but in time, as the battle lines harden and the politics of the situation become more clear, we will discover that unionized city and state employees are a force of the left.

Reform how citizen lawsuits get paid out cities for police misconduct(by taxpayers who had nothing to do with it)
IE: take it out of their pension or departmental funding or pay (or all of the above) and you’ll see shenanigans end real quick.
Or auction off their MRAPs.
Not falling for it chess player or whoever the original author is.
I will support the peace keepers and enforcers until they are no longer law abiding.

Filing a false police report is called tampering with public records. It’s a felony. If this wasn’t recorded do you want to see what the police report would have said? Some of these cops Missed their calling in life. They are very creative and should be writing for cop shows on network TV. They are very talented....
On July 20 I was on routine patrol. I saw a man with a kiosk and neon lights Advertising cigarettes for sale on the sidewalk. Having probable cause I approached the man and told him that selling cigarettes on the sidewalk is illegal, sir, I will have to ask you to please cease and desist.
The man stood up in a threatening manner. It was then that I noticed the strong odor of alcohol and marijuana on his breath.
He said “f&$:) you I will kill you and your family”. Then he whipped out a machete and pair of nunchucks and an AK-47 assault rifle and pointed it at us. I said Sir, you are under arrest for possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Please put your hands behind your back.
He said “f$;45& you I’m going to open fire”
Fearing for our safety, we had no choice other than to circle him like a pack of lions and take him down Like a wildebeest.
Same here ..... Yet I will defend the good ones and do everything in my power to F5 the bad ones in my area of operations..... Do not ever fire a cop for cause and leave them with their certifications and commissions . Strip em of ever working in law enforcement again . Ya want fries with that ?
Hope yer well...stay safe WD !
Until the 'good cops' stand up and speak out against the small percentage of 'bad cops', they are all bad.
It isn’t just what they get away with. It’s the other cops who will not stand up to them and allow them to get away with what they do.
I guess your opponent couldn’t come up with anything but snark, so he admitted it, and quit...
Here’s another one for you then:

>>Most,if not all the other, honorable profession cant end your career or life in a millisecond.<<
I am going to guess and believe that what you intended to say was that cops have a job where their life can end in a millisecond. Truckers, roofers, steel workers, electricians, heavy equipment operators, crane operators, pilots, shall I go on? The list is very long.
Do you think there are no cops that see the average, law-abiding citizen as the enemy?
Can you provide evidence that you have any knowledge pertaining to the increasing prevalence of socialist ideology influencing police departments nationwide?
Or that you have any credibility in commenting on this?
I’m guessing no one ever told him what exactly the military does in real life. Speaking as a veteran, I know.
EGGSactly Batman!
Cops live a much safer life than say a Catapult operator on a US air Craft Carrier, or an Army Caravan Driver in the Middle East, or a Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer not mention the guys responsible for deactivating IEDs and that list can go on and on and on.
Truth is the majority of cops are in more danger of dying of a heart attack than getting shot. Not because they are lazy but because their duties keep many of them riding around in cars most of the day and they don't get much exercise...
Now the problem is that people are getting a look at how bad cops operate and those videos are having an effect on how the population views LEOs...
Too many morons with badges and guns violating rights makes ALL LEOs look bad. If it's not stamped down soon there will come a tipping point. And once we cross that line it will take much blood sweat and tears before we get back to where the police are trusted again.
My combat pay was $95 a month. What are cops paid nowadays?
What are you going to do when you receive orders to go around and confiscate the weapons of all CCW permit holders?
I’d appreciate an answer from each of you.
