Yes, not in the interest of safety, but for other considerations. Which is what we were speculating on.
There hasn't been a successful aircraft hijacking in years. Though TSA may be ineffective n may ways, I don't think they should stand down.
The risk is there. While I disagree about a flight ban, travelers can assess that risk, if the FAA ban was about safety it should stay in place until Hamas is disarmed and the threat from the south is neutralized. Leaving only the threat from the north.
A rocket did hit within five kilometers, which some people see as too close for comfort. You don’t land your planes at an airport where missiles can be dropping on the planes, and when one did “drop in” very close. That’s the basic problem here.
i would suggest that is the excuse........ the reality is the pressure is applied by the FAA
You may be right.

You might find that a lot of other people flying in there might not find that to be an excuse ... :-) ...
The public doesn’t tend to run towards the bullets, but away from them.
I’ll probably spend the weekend in the woods, but if I had a hankering to head to Kiev, no problem. Some of the same lines that aren’t flying to Israel. From the same country banning it’s airlines to fly to Israel. After all, the Ukraine isn’t a risk, like Israel. So much for passenger safety. Or liability. All politics, the anti-Israel version
I just posted another article where it said that four major USA airlines suspended - indefinitely - all their flights to Israel before the FAA came out with their order.
The question is why this is happening, not that it did. IMO, FAA and administration actions are small time political theatre which will accomplish nothing. Other than making the players look foolish. Airlines, they are private companies. If they want to cancel their flights to Israel, that's their right. Perhaps others will service Israel. If the FAA bans travel to Israel indefinitely rather than the weeks a resolution of the rocket threat will require, so be it.
I’m thinking that it was the major airlines that pushed the FAA to act ...
And the lawyers who pushed the airlines.
The FAA ban has been extended for another 24 hours!
Are you surprised ? The administration is using economic blackmail as a weapon against israel
According to the news reports ... four major USA airlines suspended their flights - indefinitely - BEFORE the FAA even acted.
It sounds like, to me, an “airline thing” and safety of their passengers, not to say anything about potential lawsuits.
Are you trying out for Josh Earnest's job ? :)
I think Michael Bloomberg handled it better when he expressed outrage that Wolf Blitzer would even ask him if it was a political decision to isolate and put pressure on Israel to accept Kerry's (which is really Obama's) version of a ceasefire saving Hamas' rockets. Did you watch it ?
On Fox, Bloomberg related the CNN incident.
The interview was in my view quite noteworthy. Bloomberg wanted it known he had flown to Israel inspite of the ban and as a Democrat Jew in Tel Aviv (I think in Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem) was dissing the President of the United States.
