It’s a controversy here in Grand Rapids, where some people want to be able to stick these things anywhere with no oversight.
Simple regulations like alerting people that live around you that you are turning your house into an Airbnb were scoffed at by the supporters. They also don’t want to have to pay the same fees as actual licensed B&Bs.
If you want to be a hotel, then go and be a real hotel. This type of thing is just begging for trouble.
This is going on all over Southern California, evidently. There was a couple in the apt complex where my daughter lives, where the rents are about $3,000/ month, that did this. They used a false identity to get past the credit check, moved in the first day, before the deposit check bounced and never paid one cent. The people had done the same thing at their previous location. Management were able to get them out this time by getting them arrested for the. bad checks.

My neighbor in Australia would evict his unwanted tenants by placing one of those ugly large lizards in the house. Worked pretty well.
