PM: Fewer Gaza deaths had citizens heeded IDF call [Israel and Hamas]
The Times of Israel ^ | Sunday, July 20, 2014 | Elhanan Miller

The death toll in Gaza’s Shejaiya neighborhood could have been lower had Hamas allowed residents to leave when they were requested to do so by the IDF, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told BBC Arabic on Sunday.

Days ago, Israel distributed fliers and sent text messages calling on residents of Shejaiya to leave their homes. But Hamas, Netanyahu told the British news channel, forced them to stay home, effectively using them as human shields.

Hamas has displayed photos of mangled bodies lying on the streets of the neighborhood and of the injured being taken to the city’s Shifa hospital.

“I would use this opportunity to speak to the people of Gaza,” Netanyahu told the BBC. “Heed the warnings of the IDF. Leave your homes through the places where you’re told to go. Leave. Don’t stay there, because Hamas wants you to die and you shouldn’t die for Hamas. They don’t care about you, but we want you to be safe,” he said.

Meanwhile, the high death toll in Shejaiya has increased international and Arab calls for an immediate ceasefire and for an international investigation into the fighting.

Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby said Israel had perpetrated “war crimes against civilians” in Gaza. That description was echoed by veteran Egyptian politician Amr Moussa, who called for an international investigation into the events.

Hamas loves getting Palestinian civilians killed because that gives them great PR. Israel, on the other hand, does all it can to avoid collateral damage to Palestinian civilians.

Israel, on the other hand, does all it can to avoid collateral damage to Palestinian civilians

Which is a formula for perpetual war and eventual defeat.

Israel is by no means alone in this post-1945 fantasy of war that doesn't hurt anybody, but Israel will be the first nation to die from adherence to this foolishness.

Hamas has declared war on Israel. Hamas has promised, in fact, to "open the gates of Hell".

OK. So Hamas has chosen the game, and Hamas has published the rules.

Either Israel takes them at their word, and allows Hell's opened gates to pour fire and brimstone onto Gaza, until Hamas (or it's successor) surrenders unconditionally, OR Israel faces eventual defeat.

I understand that Israel is giving as much warning as possible to Palestinian civilians. I applaud them for that.

But I have a question (of course) :-)

Where are the civilians to go? The borders are sealed, transportation is limited, and other “towns” are under attack too.

So where? The sea?

The IDF is not telling the Palestinian civilians to leave the area of Gaza, but only a very small area, as compared to all of Gaza. All they have to do is move slightly out of the way.

Are they told where it’s safe to move to? Maybe this would help.

Just saying.

I believe they would know where to go to be safe. If allowed to flee.

They’re told to move out of a particular area that the IDF has identified in their leaflets and also I’ve seen maps distributed. So, the IDF is telling the Palestinian civilians if they move out of that identified area, they won’t run into the IDF operation that is going on in that area.

In other words ANYWHERE BUT THERE ... LOL ...

You can ‘fly’ over Gaza in Google maps. There are agricultural areas...its not one hundred percent urban, as John Stewart has led people to believe.

Also - how do Israelis escape rockets? Shelters.

Why doesn’t Hamas build shelters? They build alot of tunnels....but no shters. Odd isnt it.

Israel did not start this fight; Hamas and militant Palestinians have brought death and destruction on themselves. They were warned. The issue for Israel is existential. When it comes to self-preservation it should set no limits on its options. All Israel's enemies have to do is leave Israel alone and recognize its right to exist.

Basil Liddel Hart warned that no nation can win a war by hugging and cherishing the enemy. If the Hamas families care nothing for their offspring, then neither should the IDF!

Israel does not “set no limits”. Israel is VERY VOCAL about the extent to which it goes to protect Palestinian civilians against collateral damage.

See this thread for an example of what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says ...

If the Hamas families care nothing for their offspring, then neither should the IDF!

Bad reasoning.

IT DOES NOT MATTER whether or not the Hamas families care about their children.

What matters is that Hamas has declared war, bragged about "opening the gates of Hell", and is quite vocal about their plans over the nation of Israel should they be granted victory in their war.

So...

Hamas has to be defeated. They have to be brought to unconditional surrender, where they VOLUNTARILY and WILLINGLY accept whatever terms Israel wishes to impose, permanently, or, eventually, they will win their war.

I'm quite sure that Japanese families cared about the infants and children in Hiroshima and Nagasaki who vanished in the blink of an eye. Ditto the German families of Hamburg and Dresden for the children who vanished into the firestorms.

"War" is the game Hamas wants to play. By refusing, Israel has done nothing but guarantee Hamas' victory.

My British “friends” over at Facebook are having an orgy of hate over Gaza deaths. The hate is so very real it’s creepy. I don’t have any French or German friends but I’m sure it’s the same with them.

The British and French are very Anti-Semitic and it shows through very clearly in situations like this.

The surviving Palestinians must never forget this. Look at how your own government treats you! They are more interested in photo ops than saving people. They consider you to be plentiful in supply, and as disposable as a dirty Kleenex.
The Israelis tried to warn you, did warn you, but THE PEOPLE YOU VOTED TO LEAD YOU CONSIDER YOUR MANGLED CORPSE FAR MORE USEFUL THAN YOUR CONTINUED HEALTH. The Palestinians most likely cannot sue their government for civil damages the way Americans or Israelis would do.
