Cameron Warns Putin Over Crash
The Daily Mail Online ^ | July 19, 2014 | Press Association

Posted on 07/19/2014 4:54:40 PM PDT by Uncle Chip

David Cameron has raised the prospect of further sanctions against Russia as the West's relations with Vladimir Putin grew increasingly strained following the apparent shooting down of flight MH17 over Ukraine by pro-Moscow separatists.

In a sign of a hardening attitude, David Cameron said Europe and the West must "fundamentally change our approach" unless the Russian president alters course.

The comments came after a day which saw the Government adopt a tougher approach to Moscow, with Russia's ambassador summoned to the Foreign Office and Philip Hammond claiming Mr Putin was not doing enough to use his influence over the rebels in Ukraine.

The US and EU had ratcheted up sanctions against Russia shortly before the aircraft was brought down with the loss of 298 lives, but Mr Cameron indicated that an even tougher regime might be required.

Writing in the Sunday Times he said: "We must establish the full facts of what happened. But the growing weight of evidence points to a clear conclusion: that MH17 was blown out of the sky by a surface-to-air missile fired from a rebel-held area.

"If it is the case, then we must be clear what it means: this is a direct result of Russia destabilising a sovereign state, violating its territorial integrity, backing thuggish militias, and training and arming them.

"We must turn this moment of outrage into a moment of action."

That action must go wider than just bringing those responsible to justice, he said ...

Experts from the Metropolitan Police are due to arrive in Ukraine today to assist in the grim task of recovering, identifying and repatriating the bodies of those killed.

A team of six investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch is already in the country, working with international counterparts...

Cut the Russians off the the international banking system and watch the Russian economy crash and burn within 30 days. Putin will come to heel or his gangster friends will kill him.

These people need to get their lies straight. Putin is arming separatists. Is this worse than Obama arming Mexican gangs, Syria and Libya rebels? Obama has helped overthrow leaders of countries. If Syrian rebels had shot down a passenger plane would the UK be calling for sanctions against the United States?

We shot down an Iranian plane. Did anybody put sanctions on us?

My sense is that we covertly agitated in the western Ukraine to get the legitimately elected president removed and who knows what else?

There is plenty of blame to go around and why can't we mind our own business? Normally it doesn't seem very smart to provoke nations that can really hurt us with nukes and advanced weaponry. I wish I felt there were cooler heads prevailing in Washington.

We admitted it immediately, allowed the Iranians access to the wreckage and the bodies, assisted in the recovery, and paid reparations to the airline and the families.

Do you expect any of that from Putin???

In fact he has threatened Putin with a “good bitch slapping” if they ever happen to meet and Putin is on his death bed.

All I personally remember were some female bodies floating in fairly clear water. It seemed like they had been pretty lavender or pink burqas, saris, what they wear is called. It was heart rending. Later now I have read that we admitted, apologized, didn't know about the reparations but seems fitting.

No I expect Putin to deny deny unless he gets backed into a corner and it comes down to the lessser of a bunch of evils for him. We have to find out just what kind of missile shot down that plane though, seems obvious but things aren't always what they seem and we wouldn't necessarily be told.

I don't know what he'll do. He's not somebody that is easy to read. I see him trying to look pious lighting a candle in a Russian church, then divorcing his wife for a younger chick and the excuse it wasn't a church wedding. The wife "didn't like to fly." OTOH he handled a ccouple crises about as well as I could hope under the circumstances, the theater with the black widows wearing bombs and the Beslan school tragedy.

I guess I will register my disappointment that maybe we had a chance to get along better and blew it. He did try to tip us off about those bombers and I don't know exactly what words were exchanged, but my impression was we arrogantly ignored him and were unappreciative.

I don't like him in photos with no shirt doing things you'd ordinarily keep your shirt on unlike swimming or water sports. He's vain, proud of his physique, doesn't look attractive to me.

Seems silly, but I miss the gentle manners of the last czar even though they say he was a bad leader. Such beauty and grace, there is no modern comparison in any royal court today imo.

The only way these remarks from the highest levels of the United Kingdom might hurt Vladimir Putin is if he dies laughing at them.

While the U.S. is a strong country whose president has, unfortunately, chosen to respond to foreign crises by acting like a mouse, Britain really IS a mouse.

Not only has Britain no power to hurt Russia, Vladimir Putin could bring Britain’s economy to its knees in about five minutes by requiring Russia’s billionaire oligarchs residing in the U.K. to transfer their enormous bank accounts out of Britain and into Russian banks.

Britain’s prime minister really should try to keep his foolish saber-rattling thoughts to himself or the world might lose confidence in him, causing the British pound to collapse even without Putin’s direct efforts.

I guess it is a rhetorical question. Should Putin arrest Cameron next time a British jihadi is captured in Dagestan plotting against Russian military and civilians?

‘This is the vapour path of the rocket which hit the Boeing,’ insisted Ukrainian intelligence chief Vitaliy Naida.

Two days earlier, Snizhne itself was hit by missiles from what the rebels say was a Ukrainian warplane in an attack that shattered homes, killing 11 people.

It is understood the rocket that downed the jet on Thursday was fired from a BUK launcher, a sophisticated surface-to-air missile system requiring months of training to use.

Jonathan Eyal, of the UK defence and security forum the Royal United Services Institute, said: ‘They [the rebels] could not have used this system without direct Russian involvement.’

Yesterday the Ukrainian government said it had proof that Russia had supplied the rocket launcher.

It said three of the devices crossed the border into Russia on Friday, less than ten hours after the jet was blown apart.

Discussing the picture, Dr Eyal said: ‘The smoke trail is consistent with the trail that would be produced by a BUK missile ten seconds after launch, perhaps a little less.

They are the thugs in black that swept into Crimea and now are assigned to this Ukraine region.

Did you ever read up on what the WW II Russian army did went it was unleashed on Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Germany!
These creatures were robbing the dead passengers in the fields.

The importance of the finance industry to UK GDP is overstated, it is about 10% of GDP and only a fraction of that is due to billionaire Russian oligarchs. Cyprus might have had something to fear from the divestment of Russian money, but Britain can more than afford to cut this gangster state off, and the way things are going, its more like, can Britain afford not to? London is a popular playground for Russia’s powerful elite, and it would certainly have more of an effect than any Russian boycott would have on Britain.
