The man used a can of spray paint and a lighter as 'a self-made blowtorch to kill a spider in the laundry room' of a rental house Tuesday night, said Kyle Moore, a spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department. The resulting blaze caused $60,000 worth of damage.

.12 gauge would also work. Sure; it'd be a nice small cannon with the internal diameter of the barrel of 3.38". For the curious, here is the formula :-)

In his defense, there are some enormous damn spiders up here in Seattle area. During “hobo spider” mating season the suckers will chase each other across the floor—and occasionally go after your toes if you skitter too quickly and startle them.
(I put the name in quotes because there's an on-going debate about the identification and actual proliferation corridor of hobo spiders. Personally, I don't care. Shit that chases me across the floor: dies.)

Did the spider die? If so, I guess it’s mission accomplished. ;)

I once put some of those smoke bombs that they use to find sewer leaks down the mole tunnels in my back yard.
Did you know they sometimes tunnel up under your house? Me, either.
