Pope calls on U.S. to welcome illegals

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide.

Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.”

Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of children who migrate alone, unaccompanied, to escape poverty and violence.” He further sympathized, saying that “this is a category of migrants… who cross the border with the United States under extreme conditions and in pursuit of a hope that in most cases turns out to be vain." The Pope added that the amount of those willing to take the dangerous journey “are increasing day by day."

The Argentinean pontiff claims that the illegal immigrants are “forced to emigrate, suffer, and often, die tragically; many of their rights are violated, they are obliged to separate from their families and, unfortunately, continue to be the subject of racist and xenophobic attitudes.”

Rebecca Hamilton reporting for Patheos wrote that Cardinal Parolin also addressed the Colloquium and stated: "Whether they are traveling because of poverty, or violence, or with the hope of reuniting with relatives on the other side of the border, it is urgent to protect them and help them because their vulnerability is greater and they are defenseless against any abuse or misfortune.”

Finally, the Pope called for everyone to have a new outlook toward “migrants and refugees”....

It is hard for me to understand where he is coming from but for some reason his remarks absolutely infuriate me.

I guess it is the fact that all these countries where they are coming from are such horrible places and they are all Catholic. The Pope needs to keep his mouth shut when he attacks those who are better than him.

Does this pope hope to grow or shrink the Roman Catholic Church?

It has helped keep the RC percentage stable in the US.

Open the Vatican for them. Set up a camp out in the square.

One reason I could never be Catholic is that they keep getting Popes like this.

I would like to hear why the Vatican wouldn't welcome illegals.
I'm sure they would hop into boats and go right on over.

You need kids pope. How about your fathers actually being their fathers of the earthly type? How about the U.S. send the Vatican a few thousand to Vatican City so you can enjoy caring for them also YOURSELF! Nothing like a kept out of touch with the worlds realities socialist to tell other nations whom they should have to support. Sell some church gold and use it to support them and even back their nations economy. Lead by example. I’ll not hold my breath on that one.

I don't know if we are in the last days, I really don't. Christ said no man knows the day, nor the hour. However, Christ said a lot about knowing and recognizing the seasons.

Obama may not be the End Times US President, and Francis might not be the End Times Pope.

But they sure are both acting like they want to audition for the roles.

When will the Pope tell the Catholic Churches in South and Central America to spend more of THEIR money to help the poor? I don't see the Pope or the Vatican providing any money to help these poor illegal alien invaders. Why is that? Why is the U.S. government flying these illegals to various places in the country and forcing states and cities to waste money taking care of them? Why is the White House asking the Catholic Bishops to have individual parishioners take these unvetted illegal alien invaders into their homes and support them? I don't see the Pope addressing real issues; I see him mouthing feel good ideas and ignoring the truth. Pope Francis is just another social justice socialist from Argentina. Oblivious to the real world and secure in his own rose colored bubble.

Obama and Pope Francis are the antithesis of Reagan and Pope St. John Paul.

Not just you-me three. Every other pronouncement he makes is some socialist liberation theology baloney. I don’t hear him reinforce the traditional tenets of the Catholic church that much.
