RINO stampede in Kansas
americanthinker.com ^ | 7/16/14 | Thomas Lifson

The headline from AP certainly is alarming: “100 Kansas GOP endorse Democrat for governor.” And the lead paragraph continues the theme:

Democratic challenger Paul Davis sought Tuesday to give his campaign for Kansas governor a bipartisan boost by announcing endorsements from more than 100 moderate Republicans who've split with conservative GOP Gov. Sam Brownback over education and tax policy.

You might be wondering, to borrow Thomas Frank’s infamous book title, “What’s the matter with Kansas”? I can’t claim to be an expert on the Jayhawker State, but it does appear that this is a matter of sour grapes:

Six state senators on the list lost their seats in 2012 primaries to Brownback-favored candidates, including former Senate President Steve Morris, of Hugoton.

Brownback, after winning the governor’s office in 2010 with 63% of the vote, has moved aggressively to implement a conservative agenda, cutting income taxes. This has rankled the government industry and its many rent-seekers. The good old days when everyone gouged the taxpayers and shared their wealth among the ruling class are missed.

Moderate Republicans are democrats who lie while running for election.

“When push comes to shove, moderates are for democrats over conservatives. “

Moderates act in their own self interest and sell their vote to the highest bidder. They worship at the alter of government.

I’m very fond of Brownback especially since as a self employed person, I pay no state income tax. But he’s a good guy.

While this item is worth noting, the overall big divide between conservative republicans and moderate republicans in Kansas is a 30 year old divide with a bitter history.

The veil is lifted. The D’s and R’s are really the same party playing “good cop, bad cop”.

Their common enemy is the conservative TEA party supporters.

IOW, us.

I’m guessing Tim Owens is one of them although I didn’t see him named. I’ve known him for years and either don’t vote but got to vote against him last cycle in the primary and he lost. YAY. Big pro abort liberal who pretends to be GOP.

I’m not really quite clear on the details, but a pastor here in Kansas said Brownback has a room next to his office in which a guy is employed to pray for the state. They call it the chapel but that’s not it’s official name. He has directors of prayer in his administration who travel to towns in Kansas to lead prayer groups. God pays attention to that and rewards it.

They’ve declared themselves openly. They must either think they have nothing to lose and it’s an act of desperation, or they think their overthrow of America is complete. Was it Caligula who thought his power was so solid that he could declare himself god? Shortly after he was assassinated?

When push comes to shove, moderates are for democrats over conservatives.

Considering Brownback helped engineer their defeat in the last two primary cycles I imagine there is more than a little payback involved.

That most likely happened before he was assassinated.

Brownback has a room next to his office in which a guy is employed to pray for the state.

If the recent revenue projections are correct then he needs to pray harder.

“That most likely happened before he was assassinated.”

Yeah, “after” would have lent credence to him being a god.

How many of these turncoats were originally dems who “became” republicans for political survival?

The so called Moderate Republicans in Kansas are liberals. They have won many a fight within the state by selectively backing some “moderate” Democrat. They have been beaten back at the moment and are licking their wounds. They have no doubt been told that America wants moderation and views the Tea Party as too extreme. This is their feeble attempt to try to capitalize on that sentiment.

Expect them to continue to hammer on revenue projections and to advocate a “moderate” approach. I believe that too many people remember Sebelius for that to work.

In Kansas, the moderate Republicans believe that politics works like this: if a moderate is nominated, conservatives must shut up, toe the line and vote for the party but if a real conservative is nominated, moderates are free to criticize and vote for Democrats.

That is how we got stuck with Sebelius. The RINOs would rather have a Democrat (Sebelius) than a real conservative (Shallenburger) to replace a RINO (Graves).

It’ll work out. Are you saying he shouldn’t have cut taxes? They don’t work?
