Turkish PM accuses Israel of ‘state terrorism’

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday stepped up his rhetoric against Israel over its deadly air offensive on Gaza, accusing the Jewish state of committing “state terrorism” against the Palestinians.

Presenting himself as the sole world leader speaking up for the Palestinians, Erdogan said that any normalization in the troubled ties between Israel and Ankara was currently out of the question.

“Israel is continuing to carry out state terrorism in the region. Nobody, except us, tells it to stop,” Erdogan told members of his ruling party in parliament, accusing Israel of perpetrating a “massacre” of Palestinians. “To what extent will the world remain silent to this state terrorism?”

Supporters from his Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP) often interrupted his address by shouting slogans like “Murderer Israel!”

His comments came after a week of the deadliest violence in the Gaza Strip for years which has claimed at least 192 lives, sparking international condemnation.

Israel on Tuesday accepted an Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire, despite a Hamas decision to turn down the US-backed truce.

In the real world, Erdogan is a joke. His propaganda plays well in Hamas headquarters (and Turkey has several Hamas figures there, too) ... but that spiel is not playing well elsewhere.

Uh, wasn’t Turkey behind the attempt to ship weapons to Gaza?

The “flotilla” came from Turkey and was trying to “run the blockade” ... if that’s what you mean.

And it’s actually a real stupid methodology to get humanitarian goods into Gaza, because Israel never stops that - overland. Israel only stops the arms being smuggled in to Hamas. All they had to do to get the “humanitarian goods” in to Gaza was to dock the ships and Israel would deliver it promptly to Gaza ... LOL ...

It was just a PR stunt they pulled!

Israel needs to state, publicly, that there will be no normalization of relations with Turkey until Erdogan apologizes and retracts those remarks, or is no longer in power.

Thanks Star Traveler.
