Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon ordered the Israeli Air Force to resume strikes over Gaza Tuesday afternoon, six hours after a ceasefire proposed by Egypt, accepted by Israel and rejected by Hamas, was due to go into effect. During those hours, dozens of Hamas rockets raked town after town and village after village. DEBKAfile: The White House called off US Secretary of State John Kerrys Cairo visit upon finding Tehrans hand behind the rockets. Netanyahu goes on the air at 8 p.m. to explain what went wrong.
Straight after the ceasefire was due to go into effect Tuesday at 9 a.m., Hamas fired 20 rockets from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli security cabinet had meanwhile endorsed Cairos proposal to mediate the conflict with the Palestinian extremists, but warned that if they continued to fire rockets, Israel would hit back with all possible force.
In Cairo, Hamas official Mussa Abu Marzuk took responsibility for eight of the post-truce rockets, most of which landed on Ashdod, slightly injuring one woman. Iron Dome intercepted four.
The first rockets hit Eshkol before 9.30, soon to be followed by a steady stream at Sderot, Ashkelon, Kiryat Malachi, Shear Hanegev, Gan Yavneh and Eshkol. As the Hamas official spoke, a rocket hit Netivot and Israel TV reporters at Shear Hanegev interrupted their broadcast and scurried to safety in a shelter.
At 12:30 p.m. Rehovot, Ness Ziona and Kibbutz Givat Brenner were targeted, then sirens blared on Mt. Carmel, in Haifa, Zichron Yaakov and Ain Hashofet and at 13.05 p.m. in the inland towns.
And the day was still young.
DEBKAfile: It was obvious from the first that the Egyptian bid to enforce a comprehensive truce before summoning the parties to Cairo to discuss a substantial deal had no legs.

If Israel does not invade and clean out Gaza they will have made the biggest error in Israel history. Then claiming the land as part of Israel must be made and police force established. Incarcerate or kill all Hamas on the battlefield.
What went wrong was Perez assumed his normal role of wanna-be-peacemaker or head-fake-artist ( take your pic) and said there should be a cease fire-—knowing dam well that the problem hasn’t been solved. The Hamasses used the lull to reload.
If Israel doesn’t use this time to once and for all clean out Gaza they will be doomed to constant risk for a generation. Notice that they hit Lebanon hard enough last time, even tho Zippy quit early, to convince the Lebanons that taking cheap shots at Israel was a career ender. Now they have to convince the non-toilet-trained folks of Gaza of the same thing. And put a brick in Iran’s gears at the same time.
And the Kenyan is too busy shooting stick to really bother Ben so it’s a rare chance for Ben to clean house.
Good play by Bibi. The world can see that Israel was more than willing to accept a cease fire.
Define "clean out Gaza".
I suspect that they will have trouble with Gaza until they handle Gaza like the ancient Israelites handled the Canaanites.
It’s Debka... Will wait until a more reputable source repeats the same story.
...Ceasefire proposed by Egypt, accepted by Israel and rejected by Hamas.....
We can name this tune on one note.
DRUDGE report confirms renewed offensive.
....”I suspect that they will have trouble with Gaza until they handle Gaza like the ancient Israelites handled the Canaanites”.....
But that’s exactly why they’re having the problems they do....Israel was suppose to wipe them out ‘entirely’....instead they determined to hault destroying the Canaanites.... They’ve been a thorn in Israel’s side ever since.
The Gaza is where upwards of 12,000 rockets are stored and pointed toward Israel. Some are imported but most are home made and all represent a threat to Israel. Failure to do a house-to-house sweep and clean out everything that looks like a rocket, fuel, explosive, or the tools to build them has to be bonfired. The Israeli MO is to then destroy the place where they find the stuff.
The leadership of Hamas is hiding in Egypt so rounding them up is problematic but they can still round up everyone who lit a fuze. And that is what has to be done by way of “cleaning up gaza”. Anything less is halfassed and is no more than a live-fire exercise.
Carpet bomb to sand, then head toward whoever complained during the operation and carpet bomb them too. Continue until there are no complaints.
No one’s willing to do what needs to be done anymore.
“No ones willing to do what needs to be done anymore.”
Patience - when the American female finds out what “female genital mutilation” really is, and discovers what Muslims will make her wear, then they will insist Islam be extirpated.
Bank on it.
