Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford better have a good explanation for rolling over on this issue.

Is this the same congressional map that effectively lessened Col. West’s return to the House?

Not necessarily, When you look at the strong Republican districts around it. You just might end up with a net one seat Dem loss. That they won't appeal it may mean they like it. That being said it means the dismantling of the Corrine Brown which is 52% black. I thought you couldn't do that.

Corrine Brown, a major embarrassment to the State, is the product of the convoluted map. My gut feeling is that democrats benefit more from the current system; change would be welcome.

It served it’s purpose, they got the loose cannon (their interpretation) West out. I wish he would run again, if he came over to the FL westside where we are, he’d be a shoe in. He wouldn’t have to contend with the former N/E big city dwellers as voters.

They got Alan West out of the Congress. That was probably all they cared about.

I just love threads like this... observing how people express strong opinions with almost no facts. :-)

Math should determine congressional maps, not politicians.

Yes it is. It also ousted Sandy Adams pitting her against Mica in the primary.

Nor should they. This was clearly a violation of the State statute passed by the voters. All States should adopt a “fair districts” statute. That actually helped, a little, the GOP here in CA. Gerrymandering has gotten completely out of hand.

Yep. We curiously lost the two most independent and loyal constitutionalists from our FL 2010 freshman class. I am sure it’s just a coincidence, seeing that our own party controlled the entire process.

This is great news for me. We live an a very thin strip of Corrine Brown’s district and the district was Gerrymandered by the GOP to let Corrine have the district an surround it with Republican Districts. But for those of you who don’t know who she is...This Sheila Jackson Lee or any of that ilk. She is not politically astute except pandering to her base which are the constituants in the inner city core of Jacksonvile and then down to Orange County an Orlando. That means its over 150 miles from one end of this crazy district.

Nice work that guy did!
“I’m a software engineer near Boston, Massachusetts. I’m a registered Democrat, but I don’t think that affects this effort towards increased openness and transparency and participation in our government. Good Government shouldn’t be a partisan issue. I’m kinda disgusted by both parties’ power grabs in various states. Democrats do it in Illinois and California, and Republicans do it in Texas and Florida. (and that’s not all)”

One the the vanishingly small times I have an agreement with a Dem.
