Hard Sell—Hillary Clinton’s “Hard Choices” Flops
Accuracy In Media ^ | July 11, 2014 | Don Irvine

The sales of Hillary Clinton’s new book, Hard Choices, which wasn’t selling all that well to begin with, have fallen off a cliff, saddling her publisher with huge losses.

According to Nielsen BookScan, which tracks sales at over 80 percent of the book vendors in the U.S., Hard Choices sold just 28,000 copies in its third week, which is down from 48,000 the previous week and 85,000 when it first became available for sale. Add in estimated e-book sales of 20,000, and the total sales figure comes to just 181,000.

While the sales are an embarrassment for Clinton, they’re disastrous for Simon and Schuster, which was so confident they had another sure-fire hit on their hands that they gave Clinton a $14 million advance. That means, based on hardcover sales, the publisher has paid Clinton almost $87 per book sold, which is almost two and a half times the $35 cover price of the book. By comparison, Hillary’s first book, Living History, sold over 1.15 million copies overall, meaning that she was paid roughly $7 per book, based on her $8 million advance for that title.

Not only is Simon and Schuster facing losses of over $10 million on the book, but with one million copies shipped they are bracing for a massive flood of returns from bookstores—books that they will have to dispose of somehow.

Adding insult to injury, Hard Choices was knocked from the No. 1 spot on the New York Times best-seller list this week by the anti-Clinton book Blood Feud by Edward Klein. It’s even worse on Amazon, where Hard Choices has fallen to 119th compared to 13th for Blood Feud.

Here’s an idea, for what it’s worth:

If the remainder books are going to be destroyed, why not make an offer to buy them at some low price (say, .50 per copy), and then use them as anti-Clinton election propaganda? You could give them away free with a cover note reading: “Do you really want the author of this book to be your President?” or something similar to that.

Just a thought. . . .

Remember how the Associated Press hired 11 fact checkers to review Sarah’s book??? Did they similarly hire fact checkers to analyze Hillary’s book???

This “Jim Wright method” of political corruption appears to have finally run it’s course.

Simon and Schuster (division of CBS) is going to be in trouble if they release false information about Hillary's book sales and associated losses in their 2nd Quarter earnings report coming out in 4 weeks.

I’d be satisfied if she was half of “dead broke”.

It was never a flop. The book was designed to cover up the bribe money she’s been taking. Money leaves a trail. Hillary is showing evidence of having lots of money. People are going to wonder how she got that rich.

“I received $16,000,000 for writing this book.”

The book has always been a smokescreen to cover for her taking bribes.

There ya go.

The publisher had no expectation of actually selling these books; they wanted to stay on the good side of “President Clinton” in case there was (God save us all) another one.

Let's hope Simon and Schuster doesn't mislead investors about the massive financial losses associated with the book flop when their 2nd Quarter earnings report is released in about 3 weeks or so.

I would have expected at least a million feverish feminists to buy her book just for sisterly support. Guess not. It may be that the most fatal blow to a politician's ambitions is indifference among the base.

I predict the Clinton Global Initiative Foundation will buy up the remaining books to save face for Simon and Schuster and Hillary, so that it appears the print run was sold out. Then they will be shipped to some abandoned warehouse in a deserted industrial area in ravaged Detroit that the foundation buys to store the books. There will be an accidental fire set by some vagrants and the entire lot of remaining books will be destroyed and turned into ashes. The fire insurance will reimburse the foundation and no one is the wiser.

Either that, or the foundation will send the books to the poverty stricken areas of the world as a show of charity and the people who receive them will use them for firewood and the foundations gets good publicity and a tax write-off.

Problem solved the Clinton way, through lies, deceit and smoke and mirrors.

Hillary’s day is done. She will never be president or a senator or anything—too old, too played out. Sad really —in 2008 she would have been a better choice than Obama. I feel we would be in better shape with her than the Boy-Clown. She should just faid away!

I hear some $Democrats feel that the Clinton’s are not liberal enough for them. And that they can do the first woman president thing with someone more liberal such as Elizabeth Warren rather than Hillary.

Royalties are paid to the author after he or she has earned back the advanced. Most authors don’t receive royalties because most advances don’t earn out. She’ll receive the full amount of the advance. It’s the way publishing works.
