Girl believed to have been cured of HIV has relapsed

A US girl born with the AIDS virus and in remission for years despite stopping treatment now shows signs that she still harbors HIV – and therefore is not cured. The news is a setback to hopes that very early treatment with powerful HIV drugs might reverse an infection that has seemed permanent once it takes hold.

The Mississippi girl is now nearly 4. As recently as March, doctors had said that she seemed free of HIV despite not having been on Aids drugs for about two years. That was a medical first.

But on Thursday, doctors said tests last week showed that she is no longer in remission. She is now back on treatment and is responding well, doctors said.

The news is "obviously disappointing" and may have implications for a federal study that had been about to start testing early, aggressive treatment in such cases, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

What you wrote is false. The amount of AIDS cases is directly proportional to amount of HIV cases. HIV causing AIDS has been proven by a thousand studies, all available on pubmed. There is more evidence HIV causes AIDS than there is that George Washington ever existed. We even know what mutation in our own HIV receptor for virus prevents AIDS in a small group of AIDS immune people.

That is mostly false. The only groups that develop AIDS from HIV faster than others are those with already weak immune systems. Children, the elderly, people with another hit on immune system (hemophiliacs who got it from transfusions, people with genetic immune disorders, a really sickly heroin addict etc.)

It’s certainly possible that they’ll eventually create a cure for AIDS, but you didn’t mention the larger issue. What activities cause and spread AIDS and other diseases in the first place? Our culture is focused on the effects—not the cause. Even if AIDS is cured—and a cure would be great—what’s next? The people who choose high risk behaviors will continue to spread other diseases and quite possibly originate something even worse than AIDS, but we’re not supposed to mention THAT.

That is the larger issue. As long as promiscuous anal sex is prevalent among a sub-group, that subgroup will spread diseases rapidly. Including strains which are resistant to all treatment.

While it is a fact that the connection between HIV and AIDS wasn’t found through traditional methods, you can’t argue away the connection between them.

Yes. The activities themselves are the greater issue. Anal sodomy is a very high risk behavior even for heterosexuals. If one engages in such activities and is also promiscuous, even worse. Homosexuals especially are known to be extremely promiscuous. It’s almost a fundamental aspect of being out and proud. They flaunt their sins with pride (like in the days of Lot—some things never change).

I tolerate sinners, but I see no reason to tolerate sin. What I mean is, everyone is a sinner, including myself. I don’t think homosexuals should be treated poorly, but I draw the line when they claim their sin is not sin. I can be friends with an alcoholic for example, but I would never serve them alcohol or say what they do is right if asked. I will not be complicit in encouraging their sins.

Homosexuality is worse in that it has real world implications beyond sin. An alcoholic may hurt no one but himself, but a homosexual is a real threat to public health. Like we discussed, who knows what’s next after AIDS? Anal sodomy creates blood to blood transfers of all sorts of pathogens. Modern plumbing is designed to keep us humans separate from our wastes, but homosexuals actually play in the sewer. It’s a very nasty behavior beyond the moral implications.

Nevertheless, Christ sacrificed for all of us, including homosexuals. A homosexual who repents is saved, just like the liar, the adulterer, or the alcoholic. This won’t necessarily stop the real world penalties, like AIDS, for sin, but it will ensure one’s soul is saved.

And before we knew to look for HIV in blood donations, a number of people got AIDS from transfusions.

So what NEW virus may be rapidly spreading through the homosexual community via promiscuous anal sex, which we don't know about? It's a GOOD idea to exclude blood from members of a community which is a known disease vector.

Homosexuals want to be able to donate blood. They believe HIV was created by the government to get rid of them. So if they can give HIV to everyone else, then the government will release the cure.
