WASHINGTON— The House Armed Services Committee today released nine declassified transcripts of interviews jointly conducted by the Committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in connection with the September 11, 2012 attack on Americans in Benghazi, Libya. These classified interviews were undertaken as part of HASC’s examination of the actions of the Department of Defense before, during, and after the attack. These interviews were conducted between January and April 2014. The transcripts were declassified by the Department of Defense at HASC’s request.

Don-o am of this opinion. It may take awhile but if the public has to put up with much more from D.C. on not taking obama and his crowd down based on their inaction ... well .... I pray the public doesn’t go there. I’m too old for this. obama’s army is moving throughout the middle east winning victory after victory and well ... here in our own back yard, am not sensing victories yet. These republicans better get up off their rears. (mho)
One more little point and then maybe I should retire (which am going to do come October), but here is a small probably non-important point. To quote Rush ... ‘Words mean things.’ From what am sensing from the Public is ... ‘Stop the Words. Show us some actions!’ Lots of riled People out there. Many of the riled people are enemies but then Americans are riled too. Wonder whom pulls the trigger first? Americans or the enemies?
That heifer looks too much like Sandra Bullock. I hope it isn’t her. I always liked her, but her playing “Mom” to Michael Oher in “THE BLIND SIDE” sealed the deal with me. Please let it not be her.
Read the first two transcripts from Lieutenant Colonels at Tripoli. Nothing really jumps out. It was a raid. They were shocked. Typical confusion and communications issues. Questioning is interesting. Republicans trying to get information. Democrats trying to get alibis.
Thanks. I skimmed a couple of them. Should have noted this, but I think it is in Ham’s that he said there was not heighted readiness on 9/11 and that at least one unit was in a “training” posture.
I’ll be more careful in further reading to note exact source.
Just finished Transcript 3. Nothing surprising. Some discussion on what “Stand Down” means.
Finished the fourth transcript. More blacking out of testimony in this one. He talks about one of the facilities in Libya being used during the overthrow of Qadaffi. It wouldn’t be the embassy, so must have been one of the two locations in Benghazi. This may have made that facility an important target to the enemy. These first four transcripts are from Special Forces Lieutenant Colonels.
Just finished the fifth transcript. Air Force General in charge of the F-16s at Aviano in Italy.
He didn’t know about the attack in Benghazi until around 8am the next morning. That really makes everything else he says moot. He could have been commanding X-Wing Space Fighters and it wouldn’t have made any difference if nobody called him. Nobody called him. Nobody tried.
Finished the sixth transcript. Admiral in Germany. Main point was on the four man Spec Ops in Tripoli. Were they told to stand down. Kind of a moot point for the “close” battle, but perhaps not a moot point for the “far” battle. Four guys with rifles aren’t going to make much difference in Benghazi, tactically. But what is the message operationally? “We’re getting out of Benghazi.” Did this message echo throughout the command?
This all gets down to the concept of “risk” in planning military operations. Does it make sense to risk sending four guys or two F-16s to Benghazi? For the four Soldiers, on a “close” level of battle, it’s probably not worth the risk. But at the “far” level of combat, the enemy seeing a C-130 unloading troops at the Benghazi airport might have made a difference. The enemy doesn’t have perfect intelligence on us, either. I think that at the close and far levels of combat, it would have made a difference to fly a couple of F-16s over the fight. A burst of 20mm may not have killed all the attackers, but, again, the enemy doesn’t have perfect intelligence on us. Their boss may have thought more was coming. You’re not trying to kill all the enemy in this battle, you’re just trying to make them stop their effective fire.
Finished the seventh transcript. Two Star Navy Admiral. There may have been an AC-130 in the region. He’s not aware of what an AC-130 can do. He thinks it can’t be used in urban setting. Several of these transcripts contain the specific phrase “the tyranny of distance”. Naval Air Station Sigonella is 470 miles from Benghazi. 4000 missions were flown from here into Libya to overthrow Qadaffi. This was a well known facility. There are drones at Sigonella. Has anyone asked for a by service equipment listing in the region? There were P-3 aircraft at Sigonella. Air Force tells him it would take 16 hours from the tasking to get F-16s from Aviano to Benghazi. They rule out using F-16s. No carriers in Mediterranean.
