Perhaps you do not understand irony? Jim Noble was dead on, and his recipe is equivalent to telling Israeli children to read about how Israel wiped out Og and Sichon. When someone attacks Israel, return fire until they are wiped out.
Thanks, I thought I was losing it.
Israel is captivated by dysfunctional thinking about war and its necessities (although she is by no means alone in this).
You cannot turn the enemy away from their savagery by demonstrating your humanity. This novel theory, not even 60 years old, has produced military disaster after military disaster.
Hamas rockets will stop falling on Israel when, and only when, the Arabs are defeated (or they are all killed). It is usually not necessary to kill them all (the population of Japan actually rose between 1941-1945), however, it is necessary that they be brutalized to the point that further combat offers an unpromising option.
War offers two outcomes - victory, or defeat. Israel and the United States have, in recent years, declined to choose victory. (Victory means that General MacArthur can land his plane at Haneda and walk down the main street unmolested. There was no green zone in Tokyo).
By declining to do the work that victory requires, we are choosing defeat.
I wish it were otherwise.
dear Tzfat,
If that was ‘Jim Noble’s attempt at irony, he might as well be Barack!
