For the past four years, Flint Dollar has been teaching music at Mount de Sales Academy, a Catholic school in Macon, Ga. He is, by all accounts, beloved by his students.
But Dollar won't be leading the band or teaching the chorus in the fall. His contract was not renewed after administrators found out he plans to marry a man.
Under federal anti-discrimination laws, employers are not prohibited from hiring or firing people on the basis of sexual orientation. Dollar is working to change that.
He says when he was hired, he was honest with school administrators about his sexual orientation. But a month ago, just as Dollar was letting his students out for summer, he was called to see the school president.
"When you're called in the last part of the day on the last day of the week, it's not a good sign," Dollar says. "I was told that ... the bishop of the Diocese of Savannah called and expressed his concern that if I was to return it would be against the teachings of the Catholic Church."
What changed? Well, Dollar had announced on Facebook that he plans to marry his longtime partner in Minnesota this summer. The Catholic Church's position against same-sex marriage is clear, and the diocese says it supports the school in its decision to let Dollar go.
School officials, without addressing this case specifically, released a statement saying they have to consider an employee's ability to teach Catholic doctrine when making staff decisions.
"I was told very specifically I didn't do anything wrong, that there were no parent complaints, no student complaints, but regardless, I would not be returning," Dollar says. "I'm still kind of processing that."

And so it begins.
“I’m still kind of processing that.”
You need to upgrade your CPU buddy.
Of course, the guy acts like “Gee whiz! Why they picking on me!” when he himself picked the fight, probably to further the usual agenda.
Its probably infected with a virus, which slows down processing.
They will keep suing until they win.
This guy missed his calling. Would have been a great old--fashioned country music singer...or maybe a NASCAR driver.
They shouldn’t have hired him in the first place, even though he kept it more or less in the closet. When he shoved it in their faces, they had no choice. Scandalize the community, or fire the faggot ... Looks like poofy-boy gotta go. Bye.
Teh church does not discrimiante against gay just because they may have the prediliction toward the same sex, just like they would not discriminate against a married man who may secretely be attracted to anotehr woman. It only because a moral issue when the urge is acted upon. Once this teacher decided to “marry” a man, he made the decision that was inconsistent with the mission of the Catholic school.
But they did, knowing he was homosexual. Now they want
to fire him for being too homosexual? Good luck with that.
RE: Of course, the guy acts like Gee whiz! Why they picking on me! when he himself picked the fight
I’m not sure if the school has actually explained to him what the Catholic church stands for when it comes to homosexuality.
Homosexuality is considered in Catholic Church teaching under two distinct aspects.
1) Homosexuality as an orientation is considered an “objective disorder” because seen as “ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil”, but not as sinful.
IN THIS SENSE, the school hired him KNOWING he has this disorder.
2) Homosexuality as sexual activity is seen as a “moral disorder” and “homosexual acts” as “contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity.
The Catholic Church believes that marriage can only be between a man and a woman, and opposes introduction of same-sex marriage. The Church also holds that same-sex unions are an unfavorable environment for children and that the legalization of such unions damages society.
And because Marriage is considered a holy sacrament, the church will not allow their employees to OPENLY profane this institution.
So, the first question that needs to be asked is this — DID THE SCHOOL EXPLAIN TO HIM WHEN THEY HIRED HIM — HOW THEY EXPECT THEIR TEACHERS TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES MORALLY?

Oh, he's gone ...he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on.
I know the Roman Church distinguishes between being tempted to sin (sodomy, in this case) and actually doing it. He apparently had a 'longtime partner' ... I think most people know what that means. The school, and other Christian schools, would be well advised not to ignore such things in the future.
So let me see if I get this right. A poofter gets hired by the Catholic Church, comes out and declares he’s getting married to another poofter, and he’s surprised they didn’t renew his contract?
Things that make you go huh.
RE: Things that make you go huh.
Well, that’s assuming the courts will use common sense in their decision.
But with the courts packed with Obama judges, I’m afraid the decision will make us go DOUBLE ‘huh’...
RE: A poofter gets hired by the Catholic Church, comes out and declares hes getting married to another poofter
BTW, according to the article, he already came out when he was interviewed.
The school hired him anyway.
Flint Dollar?
Okay ......
I taught in Catholic schools and if I publicly declared I was having an affair with a women outside of marriage, I’d be let go. I had to publicly comply with the teachings of the Catholic church, it was in the contract that I signed.
So unfair to cut him off from a prime recruitment center like a school full of young people.
