NEW YORK – Amid a flood of opposition from members, Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti informed WND that the wholesale giant has reversed its decision to remove Dinesh D’Souza’s book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” from its stores.
Galanti told WND that Costco’s corporate headquarters in Issaquah, Washington, instructed local stores that had not yet returned the D’Souza book to the vendor to keep the remaining copies on the shelf.
The book will be reordered from publisher Regnery, he said.
“Frankly, because of all the hoo-rah, some Costco locations have sold more of D’Souza’s book today than they sold in the previous four weeks combined,” he said.
Galanti was referring to the outcry in response to WND’s reporting Monday that Costco had decided July 1 to remove the book “America” just as the companion movie of the same name was hitting theaters.
The book was No. 43 on Amazon.com’s bestseller list when WND’s first story broke and now sits at the No. 1 spot overall.
“We are bringing it back, not for political reasons, but because the book is now selling well,” Galanti told WND. “We didn’t pull the book on July 1 for political reasons, and we are not putting it back in the stores now for political reasons. We are doing this because we sell merchandise and D’Souza’s book is now selling well.”

Sam’s Club is better. Look in your area for one.
If you’ve never been to Costco or Sams, and just walk into both, you will be hard pressed to tell the difference. But as you peruse the products, the more you dig, the more apparent the differences are. For me, Costco is Buic and Sams is Chevy, and I’m a member of both and shop both regularly.
However, my nearest costco is almost two hours away. WE go there every two or three months. I drive by a Sam’s club every day on my way to work. If it was reversed, I would not even bother with a Sam’s club membership, but it’s handy for the kind of purchases we make at that kind of store.
Not only does Costco’s selection seem to fit my lifestyle and product needs better, but even when they sell the exact same product, it’s not exactly the same. Case in point: We bought a vacuum cleaner at Costco for $105 a few years ago. Then we went into Sams club and saw the exact same product for $89. We thought Sam’s had beat Costco.
Then we looked at the vacuum cleaner. It didn’t have the attachments the Costco one did and it had a cheap black plastic accordian hose while the Costco one had a nice soft rubbery, semi-transparent hose with coiled wire bracing.
We’ve come across a lot of that. Sam’s is too close to their Wal-Mart roots. Which may be why Sam’s is THE PLACE to go for heavily processed junk food. It’ll make your eyes water.
Further proof that progressives really hold no values. If he really believes the book shouldn’t be sold, he should stand behind his original decision.
I’ve never been a member, but I was under the impression Costco sold large lots.
Do you have to buy a case of books, or can you just buy one?
Awesome news, but I also understand that the NYT is complicit because they refuse to put the book on their bestsellers list.
We have been utilizing Costco's services in Anchorage for 4 years as a supply point for our Lodge in Alaska.
Unfortunately, due to Costco's Sr. Management determining that I cannot decide what I should or should not read by removing all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” from the shelves of its stores nationwide, I must make a change in plans.
Fortunately, their is a Sam's Club in Anchorage, as well, and I will be transferring my membership and business to them.

Costco is not influenced by political considerations in selecting product for sale in our warehouses or on Costco.com. This includes our selection of books. Our book buyers are solely interested in book sales, and do not favor any political persuasion over another. Recently, after deciding to sell the book "America: Imagine the World Without Her", beginning on June 1, a decision was made to pull the book from sale on July 1. This decision was based solely on the number of copies sold during that month, and had nothing to do with the content of the book.
Costco is not a book store. Our book shelf space is very limited. We exercise discipline in the best utilization of that limited space based solely on what our members are buying. We can't carry every title that our members are interested in reading. We are constantly monitoring book sales, and make decisions to pull books off the shelves frequently based on sales volume to make room for other titles. Politics or controversy over content do not influence our decisions. After we made the return, a documentary was released about the book. Since then there has been heightened interest by our membership base and brisk sales at locations still in stock. Therefore, we have made the decision to reorder the book.

Same here, bought only a handful of books at Costco, vast majority it’s Amazon for books for my family...face it have to take the good with the bad....anywhere!

Costco needs to feature America on their August Costco Connection Magazine Book Picks section. I would post a link, but oddly the site is down for some reason.
Instead of just dropping your memebership to stores like this, go in and demand you money back for the unused portion of the remaining membership.

I went into my local Costco and filled up two shopping carts with expensive items I had no plan to purchase. I asked for a manager near the checkout, he appeared and I asked where I could find a copy of Dinesh d Souza’s book. He said the book had been pulled due to poor sales. I told him that I would not patronize a retailer that was practicing censorship based on politics. I walked out of the store and left the shopping carts filled with expensive products.

They were talking about Costco on TV this morning and said when they first brought Bibles into their stores to sell, they put them in the “FICTION” section! The owner has donated $500 million to the Democratic Party.
