Sadly, your off duty hours are apparently no longer yours. Are they going to check for traces of alcohol in your system? Does that mean that you also must never go anyplace where people are smoking because you might inhale some evil 2nd hand smoke that'll show up in your p-test? Will traces of weed be okay? How about parachuting? Can you still do that? Can you go skiing? Can you ride a motorcycle? Might as well set up dorms and have the employees live on site. They're the employer so they can pretty much dictate your terms of employment.

Maybe employers should bring back the curfew whistles used by factories here in the USA in the early 20th century. When the economy is bad, employers can do anything they wish...

It’s worse than just cigarettes. The electronic records keeping will also show if you’re taking the meds as prescribed, if you’re eating too much fat or too much sugar, etc. How does that work without an implant?
First of all, you’d better purchase those drugs the doctor prescribes whether you take them or not. They know what you’re buying. And that also covers what you’re eating. That little debit card tells them everything. Plus, when they do their regular blood testing they’ll check to see what drugs are in your system.
Freedom no longer rings!

I hate tobacco and think its use is evidence of a poor thought process, however...
Within ten years these fascists will be refusing to hire meat eaters, leather shoe wearers, SUV drivers and motorcycle riders.
Within twenty years if your family going back three generations is all white, you’ll be asked to explain why.

It may be wrong-headed, but (as many on this forum would certainly argue) employers are within their rights to employ or not employ who they choose, based on whatever criteria they like (except for race, religion, and apparently sexual orientation, now). Employees have the right to walk and look for work elsewhere.
That’s not to say I like it. I’m glad my employer doesn’t seem to take any interest in my life outside work.
In Europe they would take to the streets and riot if employers tried this sort of stuff, for the government to intervene and make it illegal. But we don’t want government interference with either our personal lives, or in business, right?

This is utterly totalitarian. Hopefully, after the elections, Maryland’s new governor and Anne Arundel County’s new County Exectuive (our nominee is a very good man) will intervene.

I am a lifelong non-smoker and I object to this, likely more strongly than most smokers do.

Employers have every right to not hire smokers if they think that is important.

;Maryland Hospital Bans Employees From Smoking Anywhere On Earth” Yes, if you smoke don't bother to apply...
but if you regularly or compulsively engage in dangerous sexual practices (like man on man), then you are welcomed.
After all that activity is protected by Maryland law. Its a right.

If they want to pay me round-the-clock, then where do I sign? (I don’t smoke anyway). But....if they think this is just a freebie fringe bene they get for paying me for 8 of thpse hours, then Still Thinking bans himself from working at Anne Arundel Hospital.
