I've read all the Kenneth Roberts historical novels. Spencer Tracy played him when "Northwest Passage" was made into a big budget Technicolor film in the late Thirties.

He was a hero in the French and Indian War, but picked the Loyalist side in the Revolution. He was a guerilla fighter, a man ahead of his time, and his behavior didn't sit well with the British, who wanted to fight like gentlemen.

I have seen that Tracy movie! I can’t imagine why he picked the Loyalist side, he was such a rebel about most everything! He was a master strategist!

Rogers was a true guerrilla and was probably key in making us adopt those tactics..
