NEW YORK – Big-box retailer Costco pulled Dinesh D’Souza’s new book, “America: Imagine a World Without Her,” after marketing it on shelves for one month, but Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti told WND the decision was not motivated by political considerations.
The book, heavily critical of Barack Obama, was officially released June 2. A corporate decision to return the books was issued July 1, just as a companion movie by D’Souza, was being released to coincide with the July 4 Independence Day weekend.
Galanti confirmed to WND the “pull order” was in effect and that D’Souza’s book is in the process of being removed from Costco stores this week, with the goal to have all copies of D’Souza’s book out of Costco stores nationwide and shipped back to the vendor no later than July 15.
He said the decision to pull D’Souza’s book was not political but was based solely on sales, arguing Costco’s national goal is to market books that show up on the New York Times bestseller list.
The book will make the New York Times list July 13.
Galanti could not explain why Costco book buyer Pennie Clark Ianniciello decided to pull the book just as D’Souza’s movie was being released and the national marketing campaign on the book and movie switched into high gear.

It’s still on the shelves of the Costco in Colorado Springs, as of lunchtime today.
Yet my local Costco still has plenty of copies of “Hard Choices”, both paper and recording, on hand. Go figure.......

The largest book display was for Hillary Clinton's "Hard Choices." I counted 462 copies and about 24 CD audio sets.
Patrick J. Buchanan’s "The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose from Defeat to Create the New Majority" was about 50 copies.
Dr. Ben Carson's "One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future" was around 80 copies.
Edward Klein's "Blood Feud: The Clintons vs. the Obamas” was about 80 copies.
Daniel Schulman's "Sons of Wichita: How the Koch Brothers Became America's Most Powerful and Private Dynasty" was about 10 copies.
This set of data is insufficient to draw a conclusion. However, more reports like this would provide enough data.
The book is there for another week. The book is not selling. It is not even in Amazon's Top 200. Not censorship.....just wasting shelf space! And this boycott idea ensures that it will not sell there. Btw, if you want American made, you had better skip Sam's/Walmart. They are Americans largest importer of products for Communist China!
I never mentioned anything about wanting American made, so I'm not sure why the kook went there.
This is from the NY Times regarding the ranking methodology for the best seller list.
“The universe of print book dealers is well established, and sales of print titles are statistically weighted to represent all outlets nationwide. “
Basically, if your town does not have a Print Book Store, and you order online, your sales does not count in the NYT best seller list.
Guess who lives in small towns without a book dealer ?

I’ve despised Costco ever since the Northridge Earthquake, when the entire side of our local store imploded, keeping the store closed for close to three months......come renewal time, I requested an extra three months - their reply was “what earthquake?”.
Ungh... um... flyover country folk? Those beer-swilling, Bible-thumping, gun-hugging, charity-giving, neighbor-helping, patriotic, country music-loving, Constitution-respecting, states' rights-supporting, rugged individualist neanderthals?

I just got off the phone with Costco and apparently they have reversed their decision to pull the book.
Apparently they have been catching a lot of flack and although they denied it was a political decision, they are smart enough to understand that money is what drives their business and not politics.
we need to get out there and support that decision. My espouse will pick one up this week if they’re on the floor.
That's because they ordered 500 copies. 30 were probably shoplifted since people who like Hillary think they are entitled to everything for free. The other 8 were probably sent back to the publisher because some enterprising artist took a felt pen and drew a mustache.
Costco’s CEO and Chmn are HUGE Dem donors. How the book got on their shelves in the first place is the mystery. BUT also poor marketing strategy by the vendor if they were out a month before the PR campaign and intro of the movie. But let’s not kid ourselves about Costco’s intent.

Dr. Ben Carson, a strident Obama critic, is a longtime board member at Democratic-leaning Costco. Also: Baristas Coffee unveils audited financials with some surprises, and online retailer Rivet & Sway closes shop.
Costco Wholesale seems to lean to the Democratic side: Co-founders Jeff Brotman and Jim Sinegal held fundraisers for President Obama at their Eastside homes, and the company was hailed by the Obama administration as the paragon of American capitalism with a conscience.
Costco leaders also have prominently backed the president’s efforts to raise the federal minimum wage.
So it’s interesting to see a Costco board member, Dr. Ben Carson, emerge as one of the most strident and controversial voices against Obama — and the great hope of some Republicans for the 2016 presidential election.

Many other Costco directors are clearly not in Carson’s corner. Former Yahoo President Susan Decker contributed to the Obama campaign in 2008 and to Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2007, according to campaign-finance website Opensecrets.org.
Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti gave money not only to Obama’s campaign in 2012, but to Bill Bradley’s in 1999.

However, in this case, I think we know what the real reason is.
