"The solution does not just include policing although we'll continue to look for ways to put more police where they're needed. We also have to give our young people alternatives to the street, and as a community we need to demand more of ourselves and our neighbors."
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, on Chicago's blood-soaked Fourth of July weekend
As Sunday night crept (no doubt cautiously) to Monday morning, residents of the South Chicago neighborhood endured a firefight. They witnessed a tide of mayhem worthy of urban war zones worldwide. This is not how Chicago wants to build its reputation as a global city. Imagine the terror of children and adults in homes on those besieged streets:
The Tribune's Peter Nickeas reported from the scene that police officers responding to frequent shootings kept interrupting one another on their radios to report still new bursts of gunfire. So-called weapons wagons SUVs loaded with lockers of rifles delivered fresh throw-weight to cops who at times ran down streets toward the percussion of flying bullets. SWAT teams dressed in green walked the streets with regular officers dressed in blue. Overhead, a law enforcement helicopter circled in a futile attempt to quiet the rampage.

In the ‘60’s we had summer recreation at our elementary school where we practiced Dodge Ball control.
If they’d set up gun ranges the perpetrators would kill more. So we must conclude the authorities are keeping the death count down. /s
As long as they don’t blame it on gang violence, then gangs won’t be the problem.
Now that’s real journalism for you. And real political leadership.
It’s easy enough to blame it on gangs but, in reality, you can blame it all on decades of democratic party influence. Same as Detroit. This story will be repeated over and over in all the cities that drank the Democrats poison.
They need to call up the National Guard like they do when there are riots. This apparently is too much for the local cops to handle.
I wonder how this plays to the rest of the world?
The dem policies produced the gangs, it’s true. They made a hopeless commieland ghetto plantation wasteland that is fertile ground for gangs to grow in.
gangland...this is what community action will get you Mr. Obama.
“So we must conclude the authorities are keeping the death count down. /s”
Yes; these aren’t “lives lost” - this is a story of all the other lives saved...

The community 0 organized was control by a Muslim street gang that was founded by a Mexican drug cartel. The were also involved in murder for hire, male and female prostitution and domestic terrorism/gun running funded by Kadaffi
Jesse Robinson Jackson’s half bro is doing life for his involvment. (That’s Robinson as in MO— She wore the gang colors to several inaugural events)

In a nutshell, this shows the lunacy of liberal "problem solving"; do more of what has not worked. This problem has a deep underlying psychology which highlights the difference between liberal and conservative philosophy. Conservatives believe in the individual and individual responsibility with primary regulation being self-regulation of behavior. Liberals believe in the group and controlling people thru external regulation. No amount of policing can make up for a lack of self-control and personal responsibility in individuals.
Not impressed. They couldn’t get 84 in 84 hours. Big time fail..../sarc.
Chicago is not a community. The use of the pronoun "we" by Mayor Rahm is inapropos, unless HIS community is shooting up the streets, which is unlikely.
Demanding more of the community in question, while an excellent idea, has no practical application in the US political world post-1964.
The only thing peaceful Chicagoans need to demand are moving trucks.
Not true - I saw an article where some dipsh!t in the Chicago government was doing just that. It's liberal logic. When something fails or has the opposite effect that was advertised, then you don't do something else or, horrors, admit you're wrong, you double down on the failed policy. (I know it it's stupid, but it makes sense to liberals)
Aren't gang leaders "community organizers?"

It’s the vetting the national media ignores
“We can empathize with police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who on Monday questioned whether a “fatigue factor” among officers contributed to the carnage. “
Blame the police officers - lets not hold accountable the street thugs - low educated - drop outs... no no no...let’s not blame the very people that put Obama into office several times....geez...
“Michelle Obama: For us, it’s the values. The thing that we try to do is make sure — the residence is on the second and the third floor of the White House. And what we want to have happen is when they get off that elevator and walk in to our residence that it feels like the south side of Chicago, the same values, the same rules, the same sense of responsibility”
