Think youve got a problem remembering and keeping track of all your computer passwords? After nine days on the job, the Iowa GOPs new leadership hasnt been able to get an accurate list of passwords for the partys online platforms.
The partys previous chairman was ousted June 28. The list of passwords left behind for the Iowa Republican Partys website and other online accounts didnt work. Chad Olsen was hired as the partys executive director on the 28th of June.
When we attempted to use those user names and passwords for the most part we were unsuccessful in gaining access and in those cases where the username was correct, but the pasword was not functional, you can attempt to reset the password, Olsen says. The problem was that if we attempted to the reset the password, the reset information would go to the former executive directors email account.
Steve Bierfeldt, a staffer on Rand Pauls 2010 U.S. Senate campaign in Kentucky, had served as the partys executive director for the past two years. He actually was the Iowa GOPs only paid employee until June 14 when he resigned rather than wait to be fired when Jeff Kaufmann, the new party chairman, took over. There hadnt been a tweet on the @IowaGOP twitter account for a month, but one finally popped up today announcing: Were baaaaAAAAAaaaack. Whatd we miss?! Olsen, the partys new executive director, is now able to tweet for the party.
We do not yet have administrative rights to the Facebook page, Olsen says. We are still waiting for the former executive director to provide those.
This weekend Olsen did get access to the Iowa Republican Partys website. Olsen says the partys finances were never affected by password problem.
All the financial information of the party is under our control so we dont have any issues with reporting or bank accounts or anything like that, Olsen says.
However, the partys current leaders do not have control over the iowagop.org email account.
It hasnt been the smoothest transition that we could have wanted, Olsen says, but I think eventually we will get there.
Olsen says on the advice of legal counsel, he cannot comment on whether the party is considering legal action over these password problems.
When George W. Bushs team entered the White House on January 20th of 2001, they discovered some Clinton staffers had removed the W keys from over 60 computer keyboards before they left. There was only one desk top computer left behind at Iowa GOP headquarters in late June when Olsen arrived and he says its keyboard is intact.
Wow, shenanigans by the outgoing Paulbot GOP ‘leadership’ in Iowa.
What bunch of j*g offs.
Yep, the Paulinistas are every bit as mature as were the Clintonistas as they left the White House.
Just wait until Obama moves out of the White House, if they are ever able to get him out, particularly if the new president is a Republican or a Democrat not of BO’s choosing. There won’t be anything left anywhere.
I fully expect brown stains to be left on the walls.
They're having trouble getting a list of the correct passwords and this is some sort of Ron Paul conspiracy against the GOP?
The average person with a website and twitter, etc has plenty of trouble keeping track of his own passwords. I'm not surprised there might be some difficulties in compiling a list of valid passwords to be transferred to another party.
So why the hostility towards the Paulbots?
Paulbots are the new pet peeve it would appear despite the fact the the Republican establishment is not much better.
One would hope that as a paid employee one would keep better track of the employer passwords than the average twitter user.
One would hope an employer would keep better track of an employee and what company information s/he’s privy to...especially an out going employee.
Why does being a Republican mean being an incompetent idiot. It’s like they want to perpetuate a stereotype that Republicans can’t use computers.
Why not look at The Matrix series & see what 15 year old ideas might suggest?
Paul people took control of the Iowa GOP central committee in 2012. A new central committee loyal to Governor Branstad was elected this year. A former Paul employee changed the passwords.
