I agree that there is too much corruption in Washington DC, and spending 2/3 of one’s life in Washington DC is reason enough to retire a politician, no matter what party he or she belongs to. I also believe that Roberts is the poster boy for why the Seventeenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was such a terrible idea.

The 17th amendment has nothing to do with term limits, and states that are safely controlled by one party (e.g. the Massachuttes state legislature or the Idaho state legislature) would have no problem appointing a party insider to serve as U.S. Senator for life, so I’ll have to disagree with you there.

If the 17th amendment were repealed, a Ted Cruz type would stand zero chance of being selected by the establishment politicians in the state legislature.
