At the eleven minute mark of this 15 minute interview, Kansas Senator Pat Roberts is reduced to a stumbling, bumbling pile of a 47 years in Washington incumbent who can't manage to coherently explain why he doesn't actually live in Kansas anymore.
And perhaps the worst of it is when he admits that he does click his heels together to go back to Kansas on occasion .... seemingly only when he gets an opponent. Roberts may not have distinguished himself as that much of a wizard in D.C. over the years but if a slot opens up in Oz, perhaps Dorothy will consider him as a write in after hearing this embarrassing performance.
Asked about his residency during an interview Thursday with talk radio station KCMO in Mission, Kansas, Roberts said: Every time I get an opponent I mean, every time I get a chance, Im home.
Yes, the residency portion of the interview really is that bad, leaving a broad opening to his opponent Dr. Milton Wolf, as Politico points out here.
Pat Roberts has been in Washington for 47 years, and for him now to admit that he comes home to Dodge City only when he gets an opponent is a slap in the face to Kansans, he said in a statement.
... the gaffe reinforces a criticism that Roberts is too close to Washington and out of touch with his state. The New York Times reported in February that the senator is a virtual stranger in his home state, renting out his Dodge City property and staying with two donors when he stays in Kansas.
As per the New York Times at link above: "It is hard to find anyone who has seen Senator Pat Roberts here at the redbrick house on a

Why is this crap?
If we ever get to repeal the 17th amendment, it might be good to require that senators vote from their home state capital. This would distribute the power even more back to the states.
Because, we in Kansas know Roberts as a conservative and have never heard of Miltie. Claiming to be “Tea Party” candidate is the new thing but this guy has no record of being what we are looking for. Give us a candidate who has a track record of being more conservative and we will vote that way. Lip service is something for the Clinton supporters.
Do you recall the Senators who stood with Ted Cruz?
Ok - so tell me what did Roberts do to reduce the size and scope of the federal government when Republicnans were in charge of everything? What did this “conservative” do?
He’s been in Congress since 1980. Thats long enough.
So, you are freakin’ pleased with a senator from D.C? No wonder the establishment can’t be toppled, with guys like you. Wolf is an intellectual who impresses every time I hear him.
Not everyone in Kansas is happy about having a Senator from Virginia representing us in the U.S. Senate. The guy left Kansas in 1957. The only time I’ve seen him is when he came to Leavenworth for a town hall meeting at the Riverfront Center. The subject was the Obama Administration’s strawman to close GITMO and move the detainees to Ft. Leavenworth. He thought all of it was a bit of a joke and laughed the whole thing off. He was right politically, it wasn’t going to happen, but his attitude toward the hayseeds of Kansas came across loud and clear.
I agree with you, he is crap.
That’s how you behave when you don’t live in the state and when you think that you are entitled to the seat for life.
Stupid argument. Come up with a better candidate and I will vote for him. I'm not voting for an unknown on the off chance he will be more conservative.
Sorry. Do your own homework. Tell me what he did to increase the government. Being a Kansan, I have a vote and it is for Roberts. You evidentially are not proud enough of your state to list it.

Quite often crap gets posted mutliple times on FR.
OK, as an actual Kansan I respect your dog in the fight as opposed to these other guys. It’s your vote. Vote for Wolf. You may be right. He may be Cruz. He may be Reagan. I don’t know and that’s my problem. Being a hayseed from Kansas I sometimes see Snake Oil salesmen where there are none. If Roberts were getting rich in Virginia, I’m sure he could own two homes.
Its not a stupid argument. Washington thinks they are the ruling class and anyone whose been there 34 years is eyeball deep in the corruption. Its naive and stupid to think otherwise.
No real of the 17th Amendment. period. What, you want a little club electing Senators?
Let's see. Senator Roberts makes $174,000 a year. His estimated worth according to Forbes and WSJ is 1.1 million. He has been in congress since 1980. I may be naïve but corruption doesn't seem to be all that lucrative.
Good for you. I am from Louisiana and am very familiar with Senator Roberts. He is truly one of the best conservative serving. I would love to have him represent our state instead of Mary Landrieu. We are fortunate to have Senator VItter, who is also very conservative. Some of these tea party candidates are not being vetted enough to show us a truely conservative record. I have supported some of the tea party candidates, but some have been a dissapointment. I for one want us to have control of the senate and send Harry Reid back into the majority.
The other most important statement you made was that you is Kansas know your candidate, Roberts, and you should make the difference, not other states. I fear we will lose some good conservatives nad thus lose the chance of winning back the senate.
Good Luck Kansas.
Thanks. I think we found out in 2008 that Change is not always a good thing.
Thus, unlike you, I don't live in Kansas, but so long as Pat Roberts or Jerry Moran get to vote on national laws, national budgets and national taxes, I and each and every other American have standing to criticize or support either of them and you have the same rights as to 98 non-Kansan Senators. America, it's a great country!
All that having been said, we don't ask much of a person who seeks to serve in the Senate: American citizenship; at least 30 years of age and a residence in the state he or she seeks to represent. Since Roberts has been in Congress or the Senate since 1980, I would suppose he has met the age requirement and now seeks a fourth term in the Senate. I have never heard any question as to his American citizenship.
OTOH, there is that pesky residence requirement. Apparently Roberts is such a tightwad with his own money that he won't rent a studio apartment or even a bedroom in Kansas. Not the first senator or congresscritter to do so and probably not the last.
As to age, 77 years old is a good time to call it quits and he should. His career is not THAT memorable in any event. If his opponent is supported by Mark Levin, that's good enough for me.
