STEYN: 'WE ARE ENTERING A POST-AMERICAN WORLD'
Breitbart TV ^ | July 4, 2014

Posted on 07/04/2014 11:27:20 AM PDT by Hojczyk

HEWITT: Mike O’Hanlon said this is common sense. Victor Davis Hanson said this reflects the evaporation of American power in the world, and it’s not going to be just Japan. It’s going to be everybody running to get their own guns. What do you think, Mark Steyn?

STEYN: Yes, I tend to agree with that, and Victor is a believer in the American umbrella, which is the situation that’s prevailed since the Second World War, where some of the wealthiest countries in the world like Japan or like Germany were able to not, in a sense, put up the money for their own defense, because America, the American umbrella was over them. Obama, if you learn anything from the last six years, it’s that we are entering the post-American world. And whether you’re an enemy of the United States or an ally of the United States, you’ve got to adjust to that. And I entirely understand why the Japanese would conclude, as the Polish foreign minister concluded a couple of weeks ago, that when it comes to it, the Americans are not going to be there for them. The Royal Australian Navy a couple of years ago held exercises with the Chinese, joint exercises. And I said to a naval officer down there that I know, I said well, didn’t you guys all find that a bit odd? And he said well, this is the reality.

When America withdraws from the Pacific, Japan and Indonesia and Australia and China are all still going to be there, and we’re going to have to deal with the new reality as best we can. Japan is dealing with the post-American world. Poland is. Australia is. Singapore is. That is simply a reality of five years of Obama foreign policy.

Liberals think America is so terrible that we must withdraw from the world stage and let others make the decisions. They will be surprised by the anarchy that will follow if this happens.

Liberals are very myopic (and stupidly simple-minded).

They have it in their minds that we are imperialistic

If we were we would own a lot of countries, Iraq would be a colony from which we earned oil money, if it really were all about oil

They subscribe to psychopathic philosophers without thinking it through

America is not what the liberals think it is anymore that the Catholic Church is what about 60% of self identified Catholics think the church is

We aren’t “entering”, the door has already slammed shut behind us. The Party’s over, it’s time to call it a day...

Jim Robinson:

Of course, as a nation we need to have an absolutely reliable military, second to none, and far more powerful than whatever nation is second (China in the near and foreseeable future?), weaponry that makes our enemies cringe in fear, a societal commitment to and honor towards those who serve and have served. That military needs the capability to deploy whenever and wherever genuinely needed in the interests of our own country and those of our best allies. Our politicians need to refrain from overusing that military.

OTOH, this nation is now flat on its back economically as a result of the inconclusive (because of feckless politicians of both parties) Iraq and Afghanistan wars, 5 1/2 years of Obozo's economic insanity designed to destroy this nation and its middle class and to infinitely expand the welfare dependency classes. We are far worse off now than when Ronaldus Maximus succeeded Jimmuh Peanut. We also don't have an obvious Reagan on the horizon.

Therefore, it is a good and necessary thing that Japan, Germany, Poland and others are going to have to step up to the plate and provide their own defense. We need to rebuild US defenses and offensive capability and are now unable to continue to protect mankind under our umbrella for te time being. We probably need to rebuild the core of commanders in each service because I would suspect that Obozo's criteria for forcing retirements and promoting replacements are truly alien to our own and to our nation's interests.

The day will come when we have an American world again but we will then have much stronger allies. In this way, Obozo's evil plans will actually backfire as leftist plans often do.

In the meantime, though we do not deserve it, may God bless the USA and protect it and us from its and our enemies!

Thanks for providing this wonderful forum in these terrible times!

We also appear to be entering a post-American America.

I’m sure to get some very negative comments about this but here goes...

America’s leaders made some very good as well as poor decisions following World War II. It was a good thing to help rebuild what was destroyed in Europe and Asia. We should have just settled for repayment on those efforts.

It was a bad thing to think we could impose ‘Pax Americana’ on the world. Not so much because it was a bad idea but because our form of government doesn’t have a good record or even means to have a consistent policy from Administration to Administration, be it foreign or domestic. We just change our political leadership way too often for that to occur.

That means in the long run we should have encouraged change we could live with and approve rather than try impose our own ways of doing things on nations around the globe. As we all know now it just backfired on us instead of creating friends and commonality among the nations of the world, all we have done is breed enemies who want nothing more than to make us ‘suffer’ for our ‘crimes’ as a nation.

The people at the top aren't idiots like the useful idiots at the bottom... Chaos and anarchy work to their benefit - they know that.

Yup. We’re going back to pre-WWII complacency. And I’m afraid the results will be the same. We’ll have to scramble (again) to mobilize for yet another inevitable world war within a decade or so. But I don’t know if we’ll be strong enough to pull it off this time. Crying shame that we’ve allowed Obama to destroy our nation so completely.

Yes.

This sentence: “They will be surprised by the anarchy that will follow...”

I think should be: They will be overjoyed by the anarchy that will follow...”

If we were we would own a lot of countries,

I think it turned out to be an Urban Legend, but there was a quote by some American generals that the only land we ever asked for in liberated countries was enough to bury our dead.

That would still make a good comeback or general statement by our side.

That gnarly capitalism, that blasted free choice. That’s how America “oppressed” the world. (Prior to the utter folly of Barack Obama.)

I don’t see anyone mark mentions wanting us to suffer

Just the libs who run our university/government/academic group The chamber of C is just along for the ride along with its group the GOPe

What we gave to Germany to rebuild was a drop in the bucket compared with the bill BO has run up

They don’t hate us, anyway

Radical islam? If wed just stop hating the idea of family, stop taxing the crap out of everyone to the point of driving everyone out of the house, to the workplace and stop worshipping birth control, we could ... And stop send our kids to the government schools run by psychopathic socialists, then we could defend our borders and live in peace

Check the cdc figures. We eliminate far more Americans per year than the 1.5 million by abortion, with birth control

Population problem? What about the tens of millions of Mexicans living here illegally? We allow the chamber of cheap labor to dictate which tens of millions more people are allowed here
