Based on the killer’s name, Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad , maybe a peaceful Muslim? The ref was simply trying to eject the guy from the game due to a red card. Naturally the filthy defense attorney is claiming the killer is innocent... Here’s something I found at another link:
Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad, 36, of Dearborn, charged Monday with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, is now expected to be charged with homicide later this week by the Wayne County Prosecutor.
Witnesses said Saad was angry about being ejected during Sunday’s match and punched Bieniewicz in the head. There were several witnesses to the attack, including 39-year-old soccer player Scott Herkes.
“As (Bieniewicz) presented the red card, the player (Saad) reeled back and swung, hitting him across the face and kind of in the neck,” Herkes told The Detroit News. “He dropped immediately.

Combine this with the high level of violence associated with Arab/Islamic culture, which is geographically most prominent in metro Detroit, plus an player from an Arab background and an American-born referee, and you have a sociological milieu in this case that is most conducive to this kind of crime. In other words, a "perfect storm."
Sad to say, this is merely almost an expected result of the sociological factors at play in this case.
