When you think about Houston, Texas, you probably picture massive oil refineries, oppressive humidity, and a sub-par baseball team a far cry from one of the nation's most up-and-coming cities.
But you shouldn't dismiss Houston so easily; the Bayou City is an economic juggernaut.
It's by far the country's No. 1 job creator and home to 26 Fortune 500 companies. A paycheck goes farther here than anywhere else in the country, and it has a medical center larger than downtown Dallas.
Add a thriving restaurant and cultural scene, and you've got a winning case for Houston as the best city in America. Here are 18 reasons you may want to pack your bags and head south.

sssshhhh (Don't spill the beans about Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. March. April and sometimes May having fabulous weather. All people talk about Houston is the hot muggy summer weather. Don't tell them that the rest of the year is close to fabulous,)
Yeah June July August Sept and half of October is pretty bad ya’ll better stay away.
Hi blam! wink wink...... :)
I’m glad to see a person of reason. I moved from very arid western Kansas to Houston in 1966 to work in the space program at NASA in Clear Lake. The humidity gave me a lot of problems for the first year but I adapted.
I lived there for 43 years and made a good living with an oil company for over 30 of those years. I now live in New Braunfels and love it but I won’t crap on Houston because of the opportunities it afforded me.
Is she still there? I left Htown five years ago after a 40+ year stint. She’s got lips that make Angelina Jolie look emaciated!
Please stay where you are and don’t move to Houston or Texas. We already have too many damned Yankees, Californicators and other idiots (both left and right) here. I don’t care if you need a job, your family is on the brink of financial ruin or the Democrats are grabbing your guns. Stay where you’re at and fix the problems you have there.
Texas should be for Texans only.
She’s still here but she seems to take a lot of time off. Her lips are still fine and she’s had some boob work. She’s one of those women whose looks are damn near perfect.
That makes little sense.
None of the public schools I attended in Texas had air conditioning, but school didn't start until about the 3rd week in September and the windows were about 12 feet high that had to be adjusted with those long poles with a hook on the end. I was a band nerd and we had summer practices at 6 AM which was a good workout on the football field before the heat could kill us.
BINGO! One of the main reasons I want to leave Houston. One day while I was “driving” (very slow in traffic) a guy in the right lane got out of his car and urinated on the sidewalk next to the street. Then he got in his car like nothing happened.
Property Taxes going and gone thru the roof in Houston and other Texas cities. A lot of it under “Republican” leadership.
People leave Houston (and other Tx cities ) because they cant afford the prop taxe$. According to my brother —30yrs ago , the diff in prop taxes was that Tx was always quite lower than my brother’s current Midwest location. Now-— its about the same as his current city in another state per 100K$ valuation .
Newbs moving into Houston have sucked up the affordable housing market, and always lots , LOTS of illegals. Whole schools are nothing but(thanks! Ds & Rs).
Gov Perry keeps traveling around and importing more out of staters to keep all this going. That cant be a good thing.
