The leader of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans, Evan Alvarez, announced Monday that he was resigning his post and switching political parties.
I am leaving my position in the [Republican] organization and have begun to speak to members of the Mississippi Democratic Party and will be changing my party affiliation to Democrat in the next few days, Alvarez told the Clarion-Ledger.

Good people switching to the Democratic Party is a reason US Senator Thad Cochran should resign/retire. There is considerable damage by what Haley Barbour group did to those who might have been inspired by Ronald Reagan...

The article does reference a number of good sources on this.
The GOP-e should learn a lesson from what they did in Mississippi.

Maybe (who knows?) he has read the democrat party planks and decided he really is a Marxist. If he is not aware of that, and he is a conservative (seems unlikely) maybe he will have a rude awakening. But leaving the party is not a sin. I’ve given it a lot of thought and I cannot stay in a party that will not give its base any say in their choice of elected officials.

Blood is thicker than water.
Mexican is thicker than Republican.
Free stuff is thicker than good character.
But Evan, note well! What can’t continue indefinitely, won’t.
Good riddance, amigo.

Yes, they did learn that underhandedness rules the day and keeps the Tea Party and conservatives at bay!
Do really think the Pub-Es would really roll over for a conservative? Did they hate Reagan?
Just see my tag line.

He must've been a democrat at heart thinking that he would be able to change the Republican party from within, but learned that it would be an uphill battle so he jumped ship back to his real allegiance.
I know a lib leader living in Dallas who moved out of state to New Mexico because she knew she would make no head way in Big D.

I would agree.
Normally, the Young Republicans are a good starting point for some conservatives (at least from what I remember).
